Can't Sleep

[AU: Modern Setting]

A-Xu a~ A-Xu a~ A-Xu!

Zhou Zishu rolled in his bed, woken up by his phone ringtone.

Yes, that ringtone is not one of his choices, but his beloved set it up for him. He simply finds it too troublesome to change it and hence leaves it as it is.

Currently, it is past midnight. Naturally, Zhou Zishu is halfway into his dreamland when the intrusive phone decides to repeatedly screams his name.

Zhou Zishu tried to ignore and reject the call, but the caller seems to be way more persistent. 

Reluctantly, he squints his eyes open and peek into the caller ID.

'Lao Wen'

He picked up the call and immediately attacked by a continuous stream of words from the other side.

"A-Xu! Finally u picked up my call, how could you reject a call from your beloved? Ahh, I know, you must be enjoying hearing my voice calling you that you forgot it's just a ringtone, right? Heh, I know you cared for me thaaaatt much~"

"What time is it now? Why aren't you sleeping?"

"Aihhh, A-Xu a~ Can't you say something sweet~ I haven't seen you in a day I miss you soo much! Don't you miss me too?"

"It's just a day, and it's 2.30a.m right now. If there's nothing important, I'm going to sleep. I'm hanging u--"

"Eeeeeee-- don't hang up first. Aihh, A-Xu, do you know, today...." Wen Kexing babbles non-stop about the events happening that day.

'I guess he can't fall asleep, again, huh? This troublesome guy,' thought Zhou Zishu to himself. 

"You can't sleep again, right?" Zhou Zishu says, cutting through Wen Kexing endless chatters.

"Eh? No, no, I just missed you and want to hear your voice," Wen Kexing tries to make up some excuses.

"Oh, okay then now you heard my voice, I'm going back to sle--"

"Ehh? Ehh?? Fine, I can't sleep, again. Can you sing for me?" Wen Kexing hurriedly admits, fearing that A-Xu would really hang up the call. 

Zhou Zishu immediately rejects, "No way, why should I?" 

However, it's not Wen Kexing's trait to simply give up; he keeps on pleading and pestering, on and on and on..

Knowing how stubborn is this guy, Zhou Zishu realises that he could end up not sleeping at all if this goes on.

"Fine, fine, just one song, then go back to sleep. I have an early meeting tomorrow," Zhou Zishu finally gives in with a sigh — yet unbeknownst to himself, his lips start to curl into a small smile.

He could hear Wen Kexing's cheerful 'hooray!', followed up with rustles; most probably adjusting himself to a more comfortable sleeping position.

Zhou Zishu begins singing children's lullaby simply to troll him.

"Lullaby, oh, lullaby, if you are not sleeping, the mosquito shall bite yo--"

"WA-WAIT! Why are you singing a lullaby for me! I'm not a kid, you know!"

"Oh, really? But you sound like one, don't you agree?" Zhou Zishu is definitely having fun.

"I. am. not. a. kid." 

"Now you're acting like one," teased Zhou Zishu.

"You very well know that I am not, and I'm sure you can still recall how much of a grown man I am from last night. Oh, but if you forgot, then please wait for me to come back tomorrow; and I'll make sure you could never forget it, anymore ^^ Just don't blame if you can't walk for few days~" Wen Kexing smirks as he says this.

Shit, this brat! 

Zhou Zishu curses inwardly.

"A-Xu? You still there? A-Xuuuuu~ You didn't hang up on me, right? Don't worry, I can call the office to ask leave if you--"

"One more word about it, I will really hang up the call," Zhou Zishu threatens.

"Our A-Xu is very shy~"

"Did I hear something? Peep.. Peep.. Peep.."

"No, no, A-Xu, you promised to sing a song for me! Come on, my A-Xu~"

Well, Zhou Zishu never intended to hang up either; he just loves the banter and teasing between them.

"Fine, fine, what do you want me to sing?" asks Zhou Zishu.

"Hmm.."

"In the count of three, if there's no answer then you'll just have to settle with any song. One.. Two.. Thr--"

"WAIT!"

"So, have you decided?"

"Sing me the song you sang back then," says Wen Kexing.

"That song? Its.."

"I want that song," Wen Kexing insists.

Zhou Zishu heaves a sigh, and says, "Fine, that one song, and then you'll go back to sleep, deal?"

"Yes!" 

"Okay, here we go.. Ehem.."

..

The sky that hasn't cleared for a long time

Your smile still remains the same as before

I cried but couldn't bury my guilt

The kite stranded in the gloomy sky

My longing for you is still waiting to be rescued

I pulled the string along

Revisiting the tenderness you gave me

The loneliness that sprawls beside me

Seems to mock me for the promises I could not keep

How could it be that you have forgiven me?

I can only read this conversation forever

Reading the pain that I gave you

I could not forgive myself

Please just pretend that I'm gone

I opened my eyes, looking into the blank space

Trying to forget your expectation of me

After reading it, I shall leave very soon

"Ah-Wen?"

No response.

Zhou Zishu smiles and shakes his head.

He must have fallen asleep, haishh..

He whispers softly, "Sweet dream," before hanging up the call and back to sleep.

Yeah, he still needs to wake up early for a morning meeting.

This is my very first fanfiction for my dearest WKX x ZZS~!

Well, the idea is not completely mine, it was from a conversation with @shierururu_ ; we're just talking about possible AU's about Zhang Zhehan's singing cover (link on top) .. and I just feel like, let me type it down! (rather than doing real-life studies demand >.<)

So here we are!
