[Name] looked down at the envelope sitting on her desk. "Since when do I get mail?" She set down her bag and picked up the envelope. Reading her name and seeing the large U.A logo, she nearly dropped it. "Holy crap."
She looked around, and back to her hand, "Holy crap!" she repeated. She rushed out of her room and headed out towards the kitchen, rushing to grab something to open it.
Grabbing the first thing she could, she quickly used it to rip into the yellow packaging.
She tore it open and shook the bag upside down, when a little disk plopped out and onto her desk. Little lights flickered and a video popped up. Her dad was in front of her, smiling.
"Hello, young one!" He gave a little salute and she copied him. [Name] continued to watch the video, letting her dad introduce himself and waiting for the big announcement.
"It is my pleasure to inform you that you have been chosen to attend U.A in the hero course!" [Name] laughed and clapped her hands. "Your scores in the exams were quite high! Someone like you deserves to be here." Her dad continued to talk but she had stopped paying attention. "Please be patient for the arrival of your school uniform and different papers to help you through the school."
The video had ended soon after and she sighed in relief. "I made it." She fell back on her bed and looked at the ceiling. "I gotta celebrate!"
She jumped up again and ran out, stumbling towards the kitchen.
"Dad, are you sure you can't make it back? Supper's ready and I wanted to-" She was cut off.
"I'm sorry dear, but I'm going to be out here for a few more hours, only a few, and I'll be home right after." she heard a beep and a click and set her phone down. [Named] looked at the plates in front of her, she wrapped up one of them and set it aside.
"I wanted to celebrate." she grabbed her own plate and left the table. "It's fine, it's cool, he's a hero and it's a busy day." she shook her head and took a few bites of her food. The video acceptance letter was the first time her dad had had a conversation with her in a while, but it wasn't good enough.
"The only reason I made this food, and he's not even going to be here." She huffed, stuffing some food into her mouth. She looked back to the disk on her desk and sighed. [Name] put her plate on the desk and grabbed the disk, she wanted to watch it again.
"Hello, young one!" She copied the salute again, letting her dad talk, and ate her food. "It sucks you can't be here, dad." she put down the plate again and listened to the video play.
The front door opened and Toshinori walked into the home. The lights were off and he could hear some voices coming from the back. "She must have something playing." He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.
There was a bag in his hand, a couple snacks. It was an apology for missing supper. "I'll just go set these in her room." he took a few steps before he noticed that [Name] was talking to someone.
"I'm sure you're busy, but I just wanted to see if-." Her voice was quiet and she cut her sentence short. "I know, but I thought we could still talk, at least."
Toshinori stopped beside her door and tried to listen. "You don't have to be rude about it, I wanted to know how you did," he could hear her sigh again, "be that way then."
She hung up with a groan and Toshinori stepped in the doorway. "You okay, sweetheart?"
[Name] jumped and turned. "Dad! You scared me." she took a breath and looked at her desk. "I was just trying to talk to a friend." He nodded and walked into the room.
"I brought some snacks," he smiled and held up the bag. "wanted to apologize for missing supper."
[Name] smiled and took the bag.
"Thanks, dad."
