"BE CAREFUL OF SABINI'S MEN AND THE COPPERS," tommy's voice mused down the phone, opal barely listening as she twirled the phone cord round her fingers and looking out the bay windows of her new home. "opal are you even listening?" he said louder this time, snapping opal out of her daze. "yeah, sorry tom," she mumbled back, rubbing her temples.
a headache was beginning to form behind her eyes, the constant stress of being in london with the possibility of sabini or the police causing anything was finally getting to her. she needed a distraction, a break from the peaky blinder business she was being sucked into. "is this why i always have to men standing outside of my house? honestly tommy i can take care of myself," opal huffed.
the phone was silent for a few moments, opal waiting for a reply even though it was just going to be the shelby brother disagreeing and insisting on them for her protection. "opal, it's just a precaution. once the business with sabini and solomons is done you can come back to brimingham," he said in a matter of fact tone, with a sigh opal just let out a hum. "i'll speak to you later tom, i've got to go," she told him, put the phone back on the reciever.
opal didn't have anything to do, she just needed out of the house and away from the two blinders that stood on the busy street day and night, she was tempted to go visit ada and karl but opal knew ada was probably busy with her politics group. pushing herself off her seat, she headed to her hallway, slipping on her shoes and heavy jacket to protect herself against the cold.
quickly locking her door and sending the blinders a sharp glare, she made her way down the street, deciding to stop off into any shops and pick up a few more things for her house. opal made note of the two men that followed behind her from a few feet, causing her to roll her eyes. shoving her hands in her pockets she decided to walk faster, in hopes of the two blinders getting caught in the busy london streets and losing her.
opal kept her head down and took a sharp turn right onto a busy street, the two peaky blinders were stuck at the bottom of the street while the brunette continued down the street happily. she felt a small sense of freedom, letting out a sigh of relief.
"we've got to stop meeting like this love," a familiar voice rang out from a few steps in front of her. opal's attention went away from the crowd to the tall bearded man standing, she laughed slightly nodding. "hello alfie," she walked closer, getting a smile in return, she noticed this time cyril wasn't with him. before she could speak again, loud fast footsteps echoed through the streets causing opal to spin round and alfie's gaze to move.
the two blinders she had lost had caught up quickly to her, both looking frazzled and annoyed with the brunette. "these men bothering you?" alfie asked loud enough for them to hear from where they stood, opal glared at them but shook her head, "no, just tommy being a pain in the arse," she mumbled to him. she took a few steps away from alfie towards the two blinders. "listen, i get it. tommy's gave you a job but honestly just fuck off okay?" she huffed and their eyes widening in shock.
they opened their mouths to argue back but was shut down by alfie. opal felt him close, her back against his chest, she tensed slightly at the sudden close contact but didn't move. "you heard the lady, fuck off," he spoke loudly, frightening them enough that they eventually walked away from the pair. "thank you, feel like i can fucking breathe now," opal smiled, giving him a small nod. she looked around the unfamiliar streets and realised that she was in a part of london she didn't know.
"you look lost love," alfie murmured, amusement evident on his face. she huffed, "well i'm sure camden town's infamous baker will be able to get me home," she turned round to face him, a smirk on her lips. alfie let out a small laugh, "i'll fucking get you home, no doubt about that," he said, offering out an arm for opal to take.

the pair walked down the busy london streets, with their arms linked. alfie spoke loudly about how the men tommy brought were more of a burden than help. opal was just excited for all the business with sabini to be over, so she didn't have to fear walking into the wrong part of london anymore. "i just hope tommy knows what he's doing," opal huffed, alfie looked down a confused expression on his face. "tommy usually has a plan for theses sort of things but sometimes they get fucked up and we have to pick up the pieces," opal explained further for alfie to understand.
eventually they reached opal's house, "thank you again for walking me home," opal smiled. the walk home was pleasant for both of them. opal felt strangely comfortable with the intimidating man, who was loud and quite crude at times but she found herself laughing more than usual. "not a problem love," he replied.
"how about i take you out? show you around so you don't have to worry about getting fucking lost," he offered, opal's eyes lit up at the thought of spending more time with alfie. "i'd like that, how about tomorrow night then?" opal asked, a smile playing on her lips when he agreed. she glanced at her front door, then looked over alfie's shoulder to ensure that the blinders were not hiding anywhere near her home.
"i'll pick you up at seven then," alfie announced with a firm nod. opal began walking up the cobblestone stairs up to her front door, "okay, i look forward to it," opal wasn't usually one to be shy around men. in fact she exudes confidence around them, which just makes them either stumble around her or try even harder to win her affection. alife solomons, however, was different. opal found herself blushing like a school girl when he called her 'love'.
"goodbye alfie," she muttered opening the door giving him one last look before shutting it. she let out a sigh, before smiling brightly laughing to herself. "what the fuck," she muttered under her breath as she leaned against the hard wood of the door. she eventually calmed down and moved away from the door, kicking off her shoes and dumping her coat over a chair.
