Volleyball practice for the Karasuno team was almost over, and as Hinata sat back and watched THE WHOLE PRACTICE, a thought still lingered in his head. He didn't have time to think on it because, Takeda called the shorter boy outside for a quick chat about something.
"Takeda-sensei, what's up?" Shoyo confusingly asked the assistant coach who had a soulful look on his face. It was as he just learned some bad news or something...
"Yeah Hinata...I heard from your mother." Takeda softly spoke, looking like he was on the verge of tears. Shoyo didn't exactly know what the teacher heard from his mother but, it all eventually came into realization to the shorter boy. It seems like his mom told his coach that he was battling his illnesses. "I'm really sorry, Hinata." He said in a sorrowful tone, devastated that he learned one of his students was ill.
A natural reaction.
Sadness and devastation was a natural reaction for everyone who found out someone close to them was ill.
Hinata knew it, but still... he hated that reaction."It's okay! I'll get better soon enough." Shoyo cheerfully chuckled, trying his best attempt to wash away all worries another person was facing. He's done this for his family so much times, that it was natural.
"Is it still okay for you to play volleyball?" Takeda asked, sniffling. That question had a very obvious answer. No illness, or anybody will get in the way of the shorter boy playing volleyball. It was in his nature, and he strived to play professional one day.
"Of course it is!" Hinata assured, but that probably wasn't the answer his doctor would've told the teacher.
It was just an answer the orange haired boy believed. Takeda didn't look too sure with Shoyo's response even if the smaller boy was acting confident and all. But, he just nodded his head, taking Hinata's word for it."Good. Get better quick okay?" Takeda smiled, "we can't lose one of our best players." He giddly chuckled, walking back into the gym.
'Best...players? BEST PLAYERS!' Hinata's face lit up like a christmas tree, almost enough to brighten up the dark night sky. He was extremely ecstatic that his coach just called him 'one of the best players'. He figured he was good but not one of the best!
"Why are you smiling like an idiot, dumbass?" Kageyama's voice suddenly came up from behind Hinata, startling the smaller boy. Shoyo didn't realize that he was subconsciously smiling until Tobio pointed it out.
"I was just told I'm one of the best players on this team!" Hinata pompously boasted, making Kageyama's eye twitch once again. It seemed like their practice was over, and everyone started to file out of the gym. Shoyo didn't have to go back into the gym since he didn't bring any of his volleyball gear.
"Aren't you upset that someone just lied to you?!" Kageyama sarcastically said, popping the huge bubble surrounding Hinata. The smaller boy turned his eyes to face Tobio, having a frown slapped onto his face.
"You're just mad I'm better than you!" Shoyo 'humphed', happily skipping ahead of Kageyama. The tall setter ended up getting more angry than he already was, trotting to catch up to the joyously dazed boy. Once Tobio caught up with Hinata, he pounded his fist down onto the shorter boy's head, making him wince. "Ouchhhh! Kageyama!!!" He whined, vigorously rubbing his head.
"You have no one but yourself to blame." Kageyama taunted, sticking his tongue out towards the shorter boy. It was a habit he picked up off of Hinata.
"You know, you're a big bully Kageyama." Shoyo muttered, dragging his feet as he walked alongside the taller setter. Tobio didn't say anything, just continued to walk in silence while Hinata continued to complain and argue. The smaller boy took a side glance of Kageyama, wondering why he wasn't speaking. "Hey Kageyama!" He attempted to get the grumpy setter's attention, palming him smack dab in the middle of his face.
"YOU MORON WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!" Tobio loudly shouted, bending down, holding his face in the palm of his hands. His nose was throbbing, as Shoyo accidently smacked a bit TOO hard. He didn't usually hit Kageyama so, he didn't know his boundaries. Plus, it didn't help that he was a spiker.
"Heh, sorry Kageyama..." Hinata nervously chuckled, feeling just a little guilty. He bent down so he was leveled with Tobio, making sure that there was no blood gushing out of Kageyama's nose. 'Hah, why do I feel bad? He hits me all the time.' He thought to himself, seeing as the taller boy's nose was a scarlet red.
"You hit too ha..." Kageyama's eyes raised up, and saw how close Hinata's face was to his.
The taller boy jolted back, burying his face deep within his hands but for a different reason. He felt something strange, and not just embarrassment."What? What happened?" Hinata curiously asked, inching closer to the hidden boy. He didn't understand why Tobio was hiding his face when the smaller boy only hit his nose.
"Gyah, go away you moron." Kageyama muttered, still covering his face with one of his hands, but trying to shoo Hinata away with his other. Shoyo was beyond confused because, Tobio was acting extremely odd. The orange haired boy didn't listen to the setter's wishes, tugging at his hand.
"Don't tell me you're sick now." Hinata let out a contented laugh, attempting to pull Tobio's hand off his face. Once the taller boy's grip loosened, Shoyo yanked his hand off, smiling in anticipation to see what Kageyama was hiding.
Hinata's eyes widened a bit, seeing why Kageyama was burying his face in his hands. The taller boy was sitting on the ground, with his face a bright red. Almost as red as an apple. Tobio was looking in the other direction, avoiding eye contact with the orange haired boy. At first, Shoyo didn't understand, and he actually thought the dark haired setter was sick. But that thought faded quick once he realized what was going on.
"Kageyama-" Hinata started, reaching his hand out towards the flushed boy's face. But before his hand could make contact with Tobio's skin, the taller boy slapped it away.
"Uh- Uh, I think I'll go this way. 'Night." Kageyama hastily stood up, darting off into the opposite direction of which the boys normally walk in. Hinata just stared at the boy slowly fading into the shadows with a dejected look on his face.
'That was because of me..wasn't it Kageyama?' A grin grew on Hinata's face, as he turned to walk into his house's direction.
'This is all your fault, dumbass.' Kageyama thought to himself, opposite direction of Shoyo.
As he was trying his hardest to quiet down his heart.
