Soon enough after all of that drama, spring break had already rounded the corner. The birds were flying in the clear blue sky, the weather was perfect, and most importantly...the dandelions were starting to bloom.
Something Shoyo Hinata wanted to do.
Visit the field of dandelions. But after that talk with Takeda, Hinata knew he wasn't going to get better anytime soon. According to the doctor, the sick cells in his body had been rapidly spreading, eating away at all of his healthy cells that was trying its best to fight off the ill ones. In simpler terms, that meant the orange haired boy was getting progressively worse.
Even though he was supposedly supposed to be bedridden, he refused to stay in the hospital, and snuck out every time he wanted to go and do something.
Thing is, he didn't tell that certain person anything about being stuck in a hospital.
'Why aren't you picking up stupid Kageyama?' Hinata huffed, leaving his around hundredth voicemail for the taller boy. He tossed his phone onto the cushiony blankets next to him, slumping back down onto his hospital bed.
It was around dinner time so, maybe Tobio did have a good reasoning for not picking up his phone.KNOCK, KNOCK!
"Yeah, come in." Hinata called out in a monotone voice, guessing that it was probably his mother or Natsu coming in to give him food or something. But it was actually Takeda, and Coach Ukai.
"Hinata, hey!" Coach Ukai smiled, entering the room alongside Takeda. Before spring break started, Takeda had the green light from Hinata and his mom to let Coach know about his illness. After all, it's only common for the coach of the orange haired boy's team to know if one of his players had fallen ill.
"Coach, Takeda-sensei, hi!" Shoyo suddenly jolted up, delighted to see two of his favorite coaches. Coach Ukai was another person that had a sympathetic look on his face when he found out but, he just wished for Hinata to get better.
"We thought you might be getting sick of hospital food so, we brought you a cooked meal, courtesy of Ukai." Takeda held out a styrofoam container in a plastic bag.
Turns out, Keishin can actually cook pretty well. When Hinata opened the container, there was onigiri, soba, and a bunch of meats inside of the compartments."You two are the best! Thanks!" Shoyo's eyes gleamed with appreciation, being able to smell the food just by opening the lid of the container.
"Of course, we'll see you when you get out." Coach Ukai and Takeda waved to Hinata, exiting the room to leave Shoyo to eat his dinner. Hinata was extremely appreciative for Takeda and Coach Ukai who were both very helpful with dealing with the known fact of the smaller boy being ill. It made him think that he might even want to tell the rest of the team.
But that was a big maybe.
Hinata happily ate the home cooked meal given by Takeda and Coach Ukai, chomping it down to a clean container. After finishing it up, he decided to give the taller boy another call since dinner was over by now.
BEEEEEEP
Kageyama's voicemail: I'm not here, call me back later. Bye.
A blunt voicemail for a blunt person like Kageyama.
Still, he wasn't picking up his phone, agitating the smaller boy. This made Hinata a tad bitter since he was holed up in this hospital with none of his friends. Part of that was his fault of course but, deep down he hoped that Tobio was able to hang out with him.'Well, there's only one thing to do.' Hinata sighed, slipping off his hospital gown because he was going to sneak out of the hospital again. He slipped on a loose hoodie, and he opened his room door peeking out to see if anyone was there. 'Why am I always chasing after you Kageyama?' He felt a bit confused, but he knew the exact reason.
It was the night he was admitted into the hospital again. He felt terrified even though he's been here thousands of times. He wanted someone with him, and only one person popped up in his mind.
Tobio Kageyama.
'I never would've thought I'd be in love with someone like you.' Hinata chuckled to himself, running through the dark night.
He finally came to terms with what he was feeling. The pain from being avoided, the tightening in his chest when he was around Kageyama...
He was in love. The only thing lighting up the dingy night sky was the street lights that was shining a dim light. He could hear the crickets, and he could see those small bugs that fly close to the light. The small boy could feel the prickly air hitting his skin as he ran towards Kageyama's house. It was pretty cold seeing as it was springtime but, he wasn't going to stop running.
Tap, tap!
'..Something's tapping on my window?' Kageyama jumped at the sound of a noise coming from the outside of his window. The taller boy had just gotten out of the shower, as he came out with just a towel wrapped around his waist. He walked over to the window, attempting to see who's out there in the darkness.
When he opened it, a huge rush of air came through the window, and there stood someone he didn't really expect to see.
Someone who was enough to light up the gloomy night sky.
"Hinata? What are you doing here, it's cold outside you moron." Kageyama scrunched his face up, seeing the boy outside with an oversized hoodie. Shoyo's eyes widened a bit seeing Tobio standing there with just a towel, and water droplets slowly sliding down his torso.
"Gyuh, Kageyama!" Hinata exclaimed, focusing his eyes to the taller boy's face and not his chest. 'I missed you.' He softly giggled, standing on his tippitoes and spontaneously slinging his arms around Kageyama's neck.
"W- What are you doing, dumbass?" Tobio anxiously questioned, feeling Shoyo's cold fingers on his bare skin. The taller boy didn't exactly know why Hinata was clutching to him like a clingy boyfriend but, he figured it couldn't hurt that she just got a surprise visit from the shorter boy. 'And what is he even wearing?' His eyes drifted down to the clothes that looked like he just picked a curtain up from the floor and draped it over himself.
"I was trying to call you." Hinata nervously chuckled, fumbling with his hoodie sleeve after he let go of Kageyama.
"Uh, I dropped my phone in the sink so it was sitting in rice for the whole day." Tobio rolled his eyes, recalling the horror he felt when his phone fell in the toilet, and not the sink. He just didn't want to tell Shoyo that because he knew the smaller boy would find amusement in it. "Why?"
"...Just wanted to see my best friend." Hinata smiled.
