As Kageyama sprinted through the pouring rain, he didn't care how drenched his clothes were getting, or the fact he might end up sick tomorrow. He ran, and ran as fast as his legs could take him, running to the only destination he was focused on.
Getting to the person he loved the most.
His vision blurred as the rain mixed with his tears, and as he ran through the streets. He could hear the distant sound of cars honking and beeping but, it was all drowned out by the sounds of him heavily panting and breathing.
It felt as if time was moving in slow motion, and there was no way of speeding it up.
It felt like the sand in an hourglass was slowly slipping to the other side of the bottle, as the sand was slowly pattering down into a pile.
And for once in his life...
He was terrified. So much to do, and so little time.
He didn't want to lose Shoyo. Especially just after catching him.
As the muffled sounds continued to sound like the cars were being drowned in water, Kageyama grew more careless on where he was running. Especially since he was sprinting, in the middle of the streets.
The middle of the street crowded with speeding cars, and trucks. Cars that Kageyama couldn't even hear.
They do say...love makes people do careless things.
This was one of those 'careless' cases.
Because as Tobio ran through the wet road, he couldn't see the car that was barreling at him at full speed. The car couldn't see him either since it was dark, and the rain was pouring down like cats and dogs.
He only realized what was happening when he heard that sound of a car honking coming closer, and closer, and that bright light flashing him like a deer in the headlights.
CRASH!
"Someone was hit! Call 911!" A voice shouted from the sidewalk. But it was once again, muffled for Kageyama. His ears and head were ringing, and he could also feel that warm blood dripping from the side of his head. But still, at this time, all he could think of was...
Getting to Shoyo.
But no matter how hard he tried, and no matter how determined he was to get up, his legs wouldn't give in. His body was weak, and paralyzed, and he could feel himself slowly slipping away. It was like he could see that light everyone talks about. The light at the end of the tunnel. But he didn't want to walk towards it. He didn't want to leave.
Not without seeing Hinata, for the last time.
Sounds of indistinct shouts and commotion was slowly fading away, faster and faster. His eyes were slowly fluttering shut, but he still had enough fight in him to keep them open. But it felt as if there were 10 ton weights hooked onto his eyelids.
But before his dark blue eyes shut, he caught something running towards him.
'Is this my imagination?' Kageyama weakly thought to himself, seeing that familiar head of orange hair running towards him. He thought it was a hallucination. He thought his head was putting his favorite memories in motion, and that Shoyo was just one of the main ones.
But no, it was real.
Kageyama was closer to the hospital than he thought. When the car crashed into him, it happened to be right outside of Hinata's window. He knew it was Tobio because of the commotion going on from the same floor he was on. Apparently, the description the caller gave was a boy around 15-16 years of age, around 5'11, raven colored hair and dark blue eyes.
Of course, it wasn't the most descriptive of descriptions but, he knew it was Kageyama because, the caller had also said that the victim was calling out for someone by the name, Hinata.
So, with all the strength he had in his body, Shoyo got up, and dashed out of that hospital room.
Just like Kageyama had been, Shoyo was sprinting out of the hospital, and right to where the taller boy was located.
His body was weak, as he was dying from the disease within his body. But he'd do anything to get to the person he loved.
When he arrived, horror filled his eyes as he ran to his knees over to Kageyama. The taller boy was on the verge of dying, and his eyes were fluttering open and shut. Shoyo was on his knees, with tears in his eyes because he knew that Tobio was running over to see him. The rain was still pouring down as the two boys both weakly stayed in the street while the rest of the people watched from a sidewalk.
Kageyama and Hinata were both on the verge of dying.
One from a disease, and the other from a crash. It was like a drama show unfolding in front of everyone's eyes. They watched as two young boys lay in the middle of the road, both weak and feeble.
"Hinata..is that you?" Kageyama tiredly whispered, slowly turning his head to face the shorter boy who eventually fell from his knees onto his back. He spent the rest of the energy he had left in his body running towards Tobio. "Wow, you look so real." He chuckled, still feeling as if this was all in his imagination.
"Kageyama, you idiot." Shoyo softly mumbled, having a tear escape the corner of his eye. "Of course it's me." He chuckled, looking into Tobio's once ocean blue eyes, now almost a dim grey color.
"I was...coming to see...you." Tobio spoke, and his voice broke a little. He knew they were both dying. But, it wasn't something they expected.
By the tone of Hinata's mom's voice, he could tell that Hinata wasn't going to get any better. But neither of them expected that Kageyama would be caught in the threshold of life and death also. It was the most tragic, yet somehow sentimental ways to end their stories.
Hinata wasn't dying in that hospital room he was so terrified of. He was dying, along with the person he loved most in the world.
"I know." Shoyo dimly smiled, placing his hand against Tobio's tear stained face.
"I'm sorry.." Kageyama apologized for some reason. But all Shoyo did was shush the taller boy, and gave him a warm but, cold smile.
"It's okay, Kageyama. Thank you for everything." Hinata muttered, slowly feeling the weight of his eyelids falling down. Just like Tobio, his body was slowly shutting down. "I love you." He rubbed his thumb against Kageyama's cheek.
"Hic...I love you too." Tobio sniffled. After those words, his eyes ended up shutting...for good. With one last look at Kageyama, Shoyo's eyes ended up closing shut also.
And that's how both of their stories ended.
So abrupt, and with such a different ending than they were both expecting. They died in each other's arms, just like a fairytale with an unhappy ending.
Well maybe not as sorrowful as you would think. Both boys died with each other. Whether they told each other or not, they died filled with warmth even though their bodies were cold. They both died along with the person they loved.
So even though it wasn't their typical ending, or the ending that they desired...
They both died knowing that someone loved them.
And that was enough for both of them.

AN:
Yes, the story was technically over at "Hinata's Letter" but, I just thought of this ending suddenly. I didn't want to change the main ending because I think it was written better than this one.
And readers, if you want a wholesome kagehina fanfic, GO READ MY NEW STORY, "the boy who got too close to the sun". It's completed ;))
But yes, this was the alternate ending so, thanks for reading this story, once again!
