my left hand was perched on top of the steering wheel as angelina, who sat in the passenger seat, looked at her reflection in the mirror on the sun visor. when i had picked her up and watched her walk towards my car, my eyes couldn't believe how beautiful this girl was. but there was a large piece of guilt eating away in the back of my mind— this was miguel's cousin. i was seeing angelina and thinking all these thoughts behind his back.

when i texted him, to cancel our plans today, he asked why. i had panicked because like an idiot, i forgot to think of an excuse beforehand. "because i don't feel good." i had blurted, wanting to smack myself after.

with no doubt, i was sure he had a look of confusion on his face because we just saw each other the other day and i was definitely not sick. "oh...well, get better man."

i felt like a shitty friend but at the same time, it wasn't like we were doing anything bad. but if we weren't doing anything bad, why did i still feel horrible?

her long, dark hair was neatly brushed back into a low bun, which enhanced her side angle. this view, right here, would be the perfect drawing. if only i had brought my sketchbook with me. like she could feel my stare, she turned head to me and smiled.

"what?" she asked, innocently as she toyed with the zipper of her small backpack.

i shook my head, a bit embarrassed i'd been caught. "nothing."

her eyes glanced to the windshield and she pointed. "the light is green." as if on cue, the car behind me honked.

we both chuckled as i gently pressed my foot onto the gas and continued to drive down the straight road. as minutes passed by, the closer we got to our destination. the windows were rolled down, curtesy of angelina, and the roaring sound of wind was the only thing we could hear. her head was turned towards the ocean. the waves were crashing into the rocks below before they reeled back in to repeat the process. angelina's eyes were closed as she hung her arm out the window, a calm smile on her face.

i reached into my back pocket, pulling my phone out and quickly opened the camera. as i glanced back and forth from the road to my phone, i lifted it up and angled the camera at angelina. thankfully, she wasn't paying attention to me. i tapped my thumb against the grey button and snapped a few photos. the wind had managed to string out a few of her hairs from her neat bun, so they framed perfectly around her face. before she could notice, i dropped my phone into the cup holder. i smiled to myself— i had a feeling we'd love those photos later.

eventually, we arrived to the spot, the cliffs. though the whole ride here is on a cliff, this particular spot was a local favorite. there was enough room to park a couple cars that overlooked one of the best views in the city. i pulled into the 'parking lot' which was just a flat, dirt patch. as i put the car into park, angelina swung open the door and jogged to the fence, placing her hands onto it as she stared ahead. soon after, i followed her.
