in the beginning, everything was perfect. neither one of us expected our relationship to spiral out of control.
the room's silence is filled with the catchy melodies of the music playing from zayn's speakers that sat in each corner. we sat in front of one another, on the floor, working on our own pieces. while my canvas is blank with not even a single pencil mark, i glance at zayn's to see his progress.
compared to my style, zayn preferred simple and minimalist. that didn't mean he wasn't any good because he is. right smack in the middle is two medium-sized faces. the smile that forms is hard to resist as i shift my gaze to his face, that's strongly concentrated.
that's when it hits me. i loosen my grip on the pencil in between my fingers, dragging it swiftly across the canvas as i begin to sketch the outline of his face. a few more times, i examine the angle of his facial features, making sure not to miss a single thing. especially the tiny wrinkles forming at the bottom of his forehead as he furrows his dark, eyebrows.
god, this man is too perfect to exist. and the idea of him being my boyfriend seemed too good to be true.
zayn lifts his eyes up, staring right at me. he starts to smile, "what are you doing?"
"shhh. don't move!"
"what-"
"babe, shush! go back to how you were, please."
without another word, he looks back down at his work. zayn reaches to grab his watercolor palette and begins to add color to his drawing. for just the slightest second, he looks at me with an adoring face. the corner of his mouth curves upwards as a smile begins to form. once i've finished, my eyes meet his and i smile back.
"can i see?" he asks, trying to view it from his spot but struggled a bit considering it was upside down to him.
i shake my head as i quickly grab it, holding it against my chest. "not yet, i want to paint it first and then you can see."
