the next time we hung out after rocky's party was three days later. miguel had asked if we wanted to come hang out inside of the taco shop by the school. everyone said yes.

"i don't care what you guys say," casper said. "that girl was feelin' me." he took his cup and brought it to his mouth, chewing on the leftover ice at the bottom.

again, my mind couldn't seem to rid the thoughts of him and camille together. how long had they been seeing each other? regardless, i wouldn't let it get in the way of anything. i was never one to start problems or speak up. i'd just keep it all to myself.

cristina rolled her eyes. "yeah, she was feeling you because she was trying to find a wallet in your pockets."

"too bad she doesn't know that your ass is broke." rocky laughed, throwing back the piece of trash that he'd thrown at her seconds before.

as they're bickering back and forth with each other, i found myself glancing at the doors almost every minute. camille had agreed to coming tonight but so far, she's not here. i didn't know if i liked that or not because i wasn't ready to face her yet.

"is camille coming?" i asked rocky, who sat across from me.

she looked at the door and back to me, giving me a apologetic smile like she knew what i was thinking. "um, zayn, i hate to be the one to tell you. but you should get over her."

i raised my eyebrow. "what?"

"she's been talking about modeling a lot and that job requires a lot of traveling. knowing camille, it wouldn't work out between you two." i didn't know anything about modeling, she never said a word to me. "maybe start talking to new people and try to forget her."

try to forget her. as if i'd be able to do that so easily. i had fallen in love with camille and now i need to fall out of it. what if i never got over her? i'd be a loser who's obsessed with a girl that never loved me.

i nodded my head. "i know."

mac returned from the counter with a box of carne asada fries and sat down next to rocky. "miguel, why the hell are we even here? we shoulda gone to the mall or something."

"my cousin is staying late at school for some art project and i have to wait for her since she can't drive." miguel answered back, nodding his head towards the school which still had its lights on despite being 7:18pm.

cristina spoke up, "i've seen her work. it's so cool, i'm betting she'll win first prize."

"she better." miguel laughed. "i didn't spend my nights waiting here for nothing."

about twenty minutes later, one of the front doors opened and a little bell jingled. everyone's head lifted up at the sound and there was angelina, walking towards us.

she looked exhausted but was still smiling. "hi guys." she said, sitting down next to her cousin who handed her a drink and a small plate of rolled tacos.

everyone said hey back and at the sound of my voice, her eyes stopped on me. i lifted my hand and waved, smiling when she did it back. miguel looked between us, noticing the gestures, but didn't say anything.

"how's your project?" he asked her.

angelina nodded her head. "i'm actually done with it. i hope it places at least third." she answered, bringing one of the tacos up to her mouth and taking a large bite.

while she's eating and everyone is talking to each other again, angelina glanced at the empty spot beside me and then at my face. almost like she was asking if she could sit there. either way, i nodded my head. she took her food and as she started walking, she said something to her cousin that made his head jerk up towards my table.

"hey." she said as she sat down.

i scooted over a little bit so she'd have more room. "hey," i pointed to the paint on her hands. "i didn't know you liked to paint."

"i love it." when i looked at her face, there was small drops of paint splattered across her cheeks. i wanted to reach out and rub each single mark off. "art is hands down my favorite class."

"really?" i asked, a bit surprised. "it's mine, too."

angelina's eyes widened as she smiled at me. "we definitely need to hang out some time, i'd like to see your work. how about tomorrow?"

i grew a bit hesitant and found myself peering over at miguel, who was watching us not so subtly. there was no way i'd want to be on his bad side. as i'm quiet, she looked at my eyes and followed my gaze which led to her cousin. she sighed, "or nevermind. since you're so scared of him."

"angelina," i said. "it's not that i'm scared. i just don't want him to get upset with me or get the wrong idea."

she rolled her eyes, not caring a single bit. "it's not like we're gonna be doing anything. i just wanted to paint together."

painting together. that's all it would be, i kept telling myself. miguel had no reason to be mad because we'd be painting and only that. so, i said yes.

"i can't wait." she grinned. "what kind of art do you normally do?" she asked me, taking of sip from her styrofoam cup.

i looked up at the dull ceiling, noticing how some of the paint was beginning to peel. "there's three that i rotate around— contemporary, postmodern and pop art. but most times, i like to doodle little things here and there. what about you?"

angelina reached behind her and pulled her cellphone from her back pocket, putting in the password and clicking on her gallery. as she scrolled through numerous amounts of photos, many of them selfies or body pictures, i found myself turning red. she clearly felt that she had nothing to hide because she made no means to cover them from me.

there was so much skin— her outfits emphasizing her cleavage and curves, her poses seductive yet her smile was innocent.

finally, she reached the part of her gallery that was mainly pictures of art. "i prefer realism. i like to draw portraits but i like a bit of everything, too." she held the screen towards me and let me view one of the photos.

my eyes grew wide as i looked at it. "oh my god, you actually drew that?" i asked her, a bit stunned by her skills. "you make my work seem like a little kid's."

"i doubt that."

"you'll see." i told her, chuckling.

angelina bit her lip as she looked at me. "well, i can't wait." she smiled and i smiled back.
