"He's so beautiful" said a woman's voice.
"I told you"
"And he looks so cute when he's asleep. I want to just eat him up. And the twins are so lovely.
Pear is exactly the daughter I've always wanted, and Ren is just, ugh, I want to keep giving him squishy hugs"
"You're going to scare them away, Mom"
"You think so? But they seemed pretty happy to meet me just now"
"They're very well mannered"
"That they are. What did Ben say?"
"He likes Tine"
"Who wouldn't"
"I know right"
"Aww, my baby boy is in love. Tine would look so good in white. Or black. Any colour really"
I kept my eyes closed mostly because I was sure I was dreaming. This was a very strange conversation for real life.
But then again my life had been stranger than fiction these last few weeks.
I opened my eyes and found myself peering at a pair of warm brown eyes that looked very, very similar to Wat's.
"Oh, I just knew your eyes would be beautiful" said Mel Guntithanon neé Chivaaree, Thailand's dream girl for many generations.
She was breathtakingly stunning, with glowing skin, large eyes, a straight nose, rosebud lips and deep dimples in her cheeks when she smiled.
Which she was doing at the moment.
"Mom, don't crowd him" said Wat, sounding annoyed.
"Okay, okay. So possessive" she giggled and moved back. She walked over to the chair near Wat's bed.
"Phi, you're awake" squealed Pear excitedly, appearing at the door. Ren grinned happily beside her.
Ren walked around the bed and cranked it up so I was half sitting.
"That's Wat's mom. She's really nice and she's been waiting for you to wake up" he whispered in my ear confidentially, hiding me from her view.
I ran my fingers through my hair, gulped some water to rinse my mouth and wiped a towel across my face quickly.
"Let me help" whispered Pear, who was pretending to fluff my pillow on the other side.
She discreetly dabbed at my eyes, my nose and the corners of my mouth with a damp cloth and slipped a mint into my mouth.
She gave me a quick thumbs-up and nodded briefly at Ren, who went to stand beside Pear.
"It's very nice to meet you, ma'am. I'm Tine" I said, feeling extremely nervous and more than a little star-struck.
"The pleasure is all mine" she said, looking at me adoringly.
"Good morning, my love" said Wat, hearts in his eyes.
I glared at him and shook my head slightly. He looked abashed and rubbed the nape of his neck.
"Oh it's all right, Tine. Wat has told me all about you. I've been waiting to meet you" she gushed.
I blushed, embarrassed.
"I'm sorry I didn't wake up sooner. I'm not used to taking painkillers and the meds really knocked me out" I said with a small smile.
"How are you feeling?" she asked, concern creasing her perfect features.
"I'm feeling much better, thank you"
