Once upon a time there was a knight
And a maiden imprisoned at a breathtaking height
The knight wondered just why she was there
So as he'd seen before, yelled "Let down your hair,"
And the long stretch of locks he began to climb.
He reached the top, knowing of no lost time
For the prisoner was the most beautiful girl
And the knight, a prince too, wished for her as his queen.
He left and returned soon for his precious pearl,
He called and he climbed, and his eyesight wiped clean
For the witch who imprisoned the maid cast a spell
And the poor knight, all blinded, walked backwards and fell.
The maiden, long since moved to dwell in desert sands
Remembered her love, left in faraway lands
But one day, by chance, he walked by the maid
And the maiden's worn eyes on her prince laid
The man sensed the woman nearby as she cried
One tear after another in the prince's blind eyes
And all of a sudden, love brought back his sight. Now darling, to bed, sleep well and good night.
