In oblivion state, she stared at the small mug that was cupped in her hands intensely with her brows furrowed.

She just noticed her surroundings again when a hand was placed on her right shoulder, waking her up from her muddled thoughts that kept swimming back and forth. There were so many things confused her and made her curious to no end. "Hey, are you okay?" The Japanese woman looked up from her mug and saw that it was her best friend. She merely gave him a weak smile before responding, "What?"

The man that sat beside her for a few moments offered her a knowing look. "What?" She asked again while sighing a little through her nostrils. "Maru-chan, what happened?"

"Uhm nothing, I'm okay."

She gave him an assuring smile that looked unconvincing in his eyes. He shook his head a little while smiling at her. "Don't give me that look. I know you." She laughed at his words before shaking her head from side to side. "Is it that prominent, huh?"

The man gave her a sharp nod that made her giggling. "Positive."

There was a comforting silence between them for some minutes before Maru proceeded to tell her best friend a surprising news. "I'm not getting married." It made the smiling man lost his smile almost instantly. "Okay..." He paused for several seconds, choosing his choices of words carefully. "Have you discussed it with him? I mean... you guys have been together for ten?"

She cut him right away with another weak smile on her face. "Eight."

The man nodded his head in understanding. "Yeah, eight..." He pursed his lips before speaking again to her while looking down at his own mug filled with brown liquid. "I think you should talk to him Maru-chan. If you don't want to..." There was a pause again in his words while Maru staring at him with unwavering gaze, a little bit curious as to what he wanted to let out.

"I will try my luck again and ask you out."

Maru slowly lowering her gaze at him and back to stare at her own mug again that was still cupped by both of her hands. The Japanese man beside him noticed this and began to elucidate his words. "Wait, I mean..." He nervously began his little speech and Maru couldn't help but chuckled at him that made him chuckled back at hearing her slightly bright voice but it was still there so he was still happy hearing it. "I asked you out before right in the past? But you chose him that day. It'll be sad if you throw it all away with what you have with him." The serious atmosphere came again between them. She tried to give him a smile but it appeared as a grimace on her cute face, sadly.

She clicked her tongue in irritation before giving her own response.

"He said that he doesn't love me."

The man laughed mockingly after those words spewed out of her mouth. "Really? After these ten years—"

"Eight."

"Yeah, I mean eight..." He looked at Maru again who was looking at him at the same time. There was these unspeakable words that both of them wanted to say but the man settled by giving her a comforting pat on the shoulder afterwards standing up from his seat. "Okay then... talk to him, hm? Think about it Maru-chan."

Maru finally gave him a genuine smile and waved a goodbye to him. "See you later Kenji-kun."

The Japanese woman sighed a little once again before moving her feet to walk out of the mini café in Fukushima. Both of them met at there without any plan of meeting each other. Maru and Kenji was very close, you could consider that he was one of Maru's best friend that actually used to have a crush on her. It seemed that Kenji still had it after a short colloquy between the two of them.
