Sunlight peeks itself into a room. Laying down in a bed an old woman with h/c hair slowly sat up. She was given a home along with all the other evacuation survivors. It's been three long years since he joins the Militia. Something she dreaded, he had only been able to send notes due to being out in space fighting with his titan. Seeing his bright smile and life full eyes is what she longed for. Getting up she began to do her morning routines turning on the T.V wall she switched to the news as she began to make herself some cereal.

"On the frontier today, the IMC port of Demeter was attacked by militia insurgents.  Reports are sketchy, but indications are that the refueling facility sustained major damage in the battle."

"You did it Y/n. I can't wait to see you come home." She smiled as the Reporter continued until she heard "Casualties". This one word dropped her smile as she rewinds the report.

"Numerous casualties are indicated, including the mutineer James Mcallen, formally believed missing in action."

Dropping her cereal she backed up against the bar. Her heartbeat slowly picking up pace. She hoped you weren't one of those casualties. She already lost your father and husband she couldn't bear to lose you too. Today everyone will be returning from battle she hoped to see you come home for the celebration she's holding for you along with your other family members.

As the sun rose to the middle of the sky the little home was filled with welcome back signs along with snacks. Family members big and small all talked around the room enjoying each other's company.  Your grandmother stood at the window excited to see you again. But there was that feeling, that feeling of you not coming home. Multiple vehicles drove down the streets as two people exit from them and towards homes. Every one of the homes those people visited was filled with crying and apologies.

Your uncle, an average height man with facial hair, long hair that was combed to the back, walked towards your grandmother as she looked at the cars with anxiety. Placing his hand on her shoulder he managed to snap her out of her trance as he looked down towards her.

"Mom. I'm sure he'll be here. He's my brother's son. It'll take more to take him down. Watch, he'll walk down that pathway to the door and greet us all with smiles and hugs." He said causing her to place a hand on his lowered one.

"I do hope you're right. I lost your brother and father to them...I can't lose what's left of his legacy." She said as he motioned her to join the others.

"Come on. We're making hamburgers right now. Let's go have some." He smiled as she nods before leaving with him.

About half an hour passed with joyful looks and grateful conversations. Just then the doorbell rang as your grandmother and aunt were drinking punch.

"That must be him. Quick get everyone." Your grandmother said as she speed-walked to the door.

As everyone poured into the house your grandmother smiled before reaching for the door handle. Opening it with a smile she went to welcome you, but instead, she stood there frozen, in front of her was your teammates the two that saved you and Stryder in your hometown. The both of them looked at her as she swallowed her saliva.

"C-Can I help you?" She asked as tears were threatening to appear.

"This is the l/n residence right?" Jorge asked as she nodded. "Do you mind if we come in?"

"No...come in." She said as she moved to the living room where everyone looked at her seeing the disbelief look on her face followed by the two.

The room grew deathly quiet from the normal chatter. Everyone watched as the two soldiers stood in front of the T.V as they placed their berets under their arms mirroring each other. Your grandmother sat in the middle of the couch directly in front of them as tears began to leak from her eyes ruining her makeup.

"My name is Chrissy. I'm a pilot that served with your grandson ma'am. Jorge here was with us as well."

"I know who you two are. You suggested he went with you." She sobbed as your uncle gave her shoulder a comforting squeeze.

"Right. I'm deeply sorry to give you all this kind of news, but I asked to give the news to you." She said before taking a deep breath as Jorge looked at her noticing her shaking breath.  " I....fought alongside with Y/n L/n and he was an amazing pilot. But upon our attack on Demeter, We were ordered to retreat due to the upcoming explosion and when we all entered the goblins. I saw a Stryder class titan fight against an Ogre. Deep in the back of my mind, I believed it was him but I didn't want it to be. I wanted to get him home but we couldn't.  I'm sorry but he's gone." She said as Jorge gave your grandma the frontiers flag. But what truly made her cry was the bloodstained dog tags with your name, birth, and blood type. "That was all we could recover from him."

"Did he at least die fighting?" Your uncle asked as he looked at them with tears.

"Of course. He and Stryder fought till their last breath. You had a brave grandson miss. We're sorry we couldn't bring him back." Jorge said as he placed a hand on her shoulder.

"I told him not to go. But he did.....why did they have to take you Y/n?" She sobbed as everyone looked at her and each other giving each other comforting hugs and tissues.

Today marked the day you didn't come home. The day you fought till your last breath to protect your family. But of course you know the real reason on why you didn't return home.
