Perth doesn't understand how people can hate others for something they can't control. The colour of your skin, the person you love, your religion all of those things are beautiful and yet people hate others for it.
Perth was born in a white Christian family. His mother worshipped the church and Perth of course had to too. Despite Jesus' message of loving all, his mother -and their church- took it upon themselves to hate everything that wasn't like them.
Perth couldn't like boys, Perth couldn't talk to Muslims, Perth couldn't talk to people of different colour. Perth was to talk to white Christian people and go to his catholic school and live the life his mother wanted for him.
Catholic school is where Perth met Chompoo. His mother was beyond excited when he brought her home. She was beautiful, but Perth just never felt that connection.
He kept her around though and proposed to her on their fourth year anniversary. His mother loved her and they went to the same church so them being married just made sense.
Chompoo is sweet, calm, loyal and smart. She's the perfect girl and Perth just can't find the passion. He never gets butterflies and his heart never pounds. He always felt like she was more of his best friend, but he's okay with that.
He thinks about her as he wanders into the woods behind their house. They live in the country and their house sits just along the giant forest that hides from the city. Perth loves this area. He loves the smell of the trees and the crunch of the leaves under his feet.
He's always found the woods relaxing, even as a child. He'd just walk through the paths and create his own, just letting his mind run free. He often wonders how God could think of something so beautiful. Nothing to him is more beautiful than the forest at dawn. When the sun starts to rise and shine through the branches and the animals awake from their slumber.
Perth turns down his usual path. It leads to a small clearing area that he likes to sit and pray in. It sounds weird, but Perth just feels safer and at home within the trees protection. He feels like maybe God can hear him best there.
He finds his area in a matter of minutes and gets down on his knees. He closes his eyes and just lets his mind go up. He prays for his family and his fiancée, he prays for the homeless and the people who need it most. Perth prays for everyone, even the people he's supposed to hate because he doesn't hate them. And everyone deserves a prayer and some love.
He stands up from his spot and smiles happily. He feels lighter after he prays. Almost like the world gets lifted off his shoulders. He starts to walk back where he came from when he hears a voice. It's a male voice and it's singing a soft, lovely tune. Perth turns and tilts his head. He's never encountered anyone this far in before.
He starts to follow the singing, his feet slowly taking him closer and closer. He stumbles over stray branches and stumps. The uneven ground making it clear no one has walked in these parts in a long time. He can hear the voice getting louder and goosebumps raise. The voice is beautiful and almost haunting.
At last he stumbles out into a large clearing with a small river and waterfall in the centre. There's also a large glass dome next to it. Perth looks around and his brows crease. He's never seen anything like this. The song has stopped and his heart is fully hammering in his chest.
"I see you found me" a voice speaks up behind him. He turns around and let's out a small shout as a naked boy smirks at him. Perth doesn't know what to do. The boys pale skin glows in the light of the rising sun. His eyes glow and his red lips are pulled back to show perfect white teeth. Per might faint.
"Why are you out here?" The boy asks, his hands gesturing at the area around him. He tries to keep his eyes locked on the man's face, but he's naked and Perth can't help but let his eyes fall a few times. This is so bizarre and Perth just does not like it.
"I live out here. I've been waiting for you" The boy smiles. He steps forward and Perth steps back. What is this? Is this man crazy?
"Waiting for me? What does that even mean? I don't know you," Perth squeaks and the boy -he has to be younger than Perth- laughs and shakes his head.
"No you don't, but that's okay. I can explain" the boy offers. He steps closer again and again Perth backs up. He takes a step too far back and his arms flail as he almost topples to the waters edge. He screams and closes his eyes, but the water never surrounds his petit body.
He opens his eyes again to find himself next to the glass dome. Strong arms hold him and he looks up to see the glowing eyes of the wild, crazy boy.
"Oops?" The younger chuckles and Perth can't even think of words. The boy is even prettier up close and that thought should never go through Perth's head.
"Hey" the older boy replies stupidly and the younger smiles wide. Perth can feel small butterflies fill his stomach and then it's like the world crashes into him and he jumps away. That's wrong. That's not okay.
"How did you grab me and get me here so fast?" Perth snaps and the boy seems taken aback by the sudden change of tone.
"I moved" the boy laughs. Just then he disappears and pops up on top of the dome, his smile wide. "Like this!" He calls and Perth doesn't know if he should feel fear or not. In another second the boy is back in front of Perth, his hand on his cheek.
"Don't touch me," Perth says sternly. He backs away again and watches as the boy frowns.
"Don't you love me?" He asks and Perth's jaw drops and he shakes his head wildly.
"I don't know you! You're some crazy boy that lives in the woods!" Perth accuses and the other boy shakes his head.
"I am not a boy. I am Saint" he says and Perth just groans and closes his eyes. Chompoo is probably wondering where he is. She probably has his coffee on the table and he's stuck with some boy that looks like Tarzan in the forest.
"Alright, well you're still insane," Perth dismisses him.
"I am not. I've been waiting for my true love to hear my song. You finally came to me," the boy says joyously and Perth just steps back again and shakes his head.
"I am not your true love," Perth argues and the boy tilts his head.
"And why not?" He questions.
"Because I am a man and you are a man and I don't know you!" Perth shouts and the boy jumps back. His eyes are wide with curiosity and fear.
"So because you're a man you cannot love me?" The boy asks. "That makes no sense."
"It does. God wants girls and boys to love each other. That's it. And I love a beautiful woman. I love her a lot," Perth tells him and Saint let's out a loud laugh.
"The gods let us love whoever we want. They all love each other up there too" the boy continues to chuckle and Perth shakes his head.
"There's only one God," he tells the laughing boy. He can see the pink in his cheeks.
"You're wrong about that. There are so many gods. I've met some of them and they told me you'd find me and set me free" the boy grins. Perth backs away from him, his mind racing. This isn't right.
"You're insane. I don't know who you are, but you're crazy" Perth tells him. The naked boy just moves and sits on the rivers edge, dipping his feet in the water.
"I will see you tomorrow. You'll understand soon. We're soulmates," Saint tells him calmly.
"My soulmate is at home. It's not you," Perth spits back. His heart thumps loud in his chest and he turns to flee the area. He can hear the song start up again and it still sounds so haunting.
It plays in his head all day.
