Now it was on me. All alone and back on my adventure to make it to the Final Selection. I'd been walking for around 2 and a half days, but it seemed I was only around the halfway mark according to this map Urokodaki had given me. I still had plenty of food left and my energy wasn't really declining, but I was getting annoyed with how far away the Final Selection was.

**How far is this place? I've been moving at a consistent pace and resting only occasionally. I thought I'd be a bit closer.**

I couldn't do anything but keep walking. After a few hours of walking on a singular trail with farmland surrounding it, I roughly saw somebody coming in my direction. It kind of looked like a guy with a walking stick to support himself. As I got closer, I realized it wasn't an older man. It was actually a boy who looked to be around my age. He was walking very slowly and using a stick to support his weight. He didn't seem tired though. Something about the way he was moving said that he still had the energy to move and was just using the stick to save energy. Seemed that he still had a long way to travel and he was trying to be smart about his energy consumption.

**I wonder where he's going.**

As we got closer to each other, I could make out his face and clothes better. His face was dirty and scruffy.. It looked like he'd been traveling for a while and not getting proper rest. His face had a combined look of triumph and defeat. I couldn't get a read on him. He wore a blue, cloud-patterned kimono and black pants. He was carrying a bag with him.

**That kimono looks oddly reminiscent of Urokodaki's...**

But I didn't think anything of it. It's been a while since I've really seen anybody else. From my master's home to Urokodaki's home. There weren't many people living there. Maybe that was just a popular style of kimono?**

He had burgundy-colored hair and dark red eyes with white irises. Rare hair color and even rarer eye color. He had a scar on the top left side of his forehead and wore earrings that resembled playing cards. Just at a passing glance, you could tell this kid wasn't normal. Who was this kid? When I got even closer, I realized he had a sword strapped around his waist. That even further confirmed that this wasn't a regular boy.

**I think I'm just gonna leave him alone. He's probably just trying to go on his way.**

I didn't say anything to him as we passed each other on the trail and neither one of us looked at each other. There was silence between us and all you could hear was the environment. Birds chirping in the distance, wind blowing, and the sound of the dirt crunching under our feet as we walked. After we passed each other, I could tell from the lack of crunching that he stopped walking.

???: Hey.

There was nobody else on this trail. He was talking to me. I stopped walking and turned around to find that he was facing my direction now.

Y/N: Yeah?

???: My name's Tanjiro. I was just wondering... Do we know each other?

**What was he going on about? I'd never seen him a day in my life. I'd definitely have recognized somebody with an appearance as unique as his.**

Y/N: Sorry, my friend, Tanijiro. But I don't think we do.

Tanjiro: Oh. I was just wondering. You kind of smell like my-

He stopped talking and decided not to finish that sentence. He looked saddened by whatever he was about to say.

**What does he mean "smell like"?**

We were too far apart from each other and the wind was blowing. There was no scent I picked up from him, so how did he get one from me?

Y/N: I didn't catch that last part. Your what?
