Part 6

For the next week, Y/N couldn't stop thinking of little outfits she wanted to buy their son. She was thrilled, Nathan had already started buying baby hockey gear which Y/N tried to tell him it was too early for.

But she hadn't been much better. She spent the majority of that month's pay cheque on onesies and toys and clothes and things that she wanted for her child.

Now that they knew it was a boy, the two of them were able to start sitting down and thinking of baby names- not that they hadn't already. But they had thought of practically everything from Rose to Atticus. With the gender helping them narrow it down just a bit, they were able to eliminate some of the names on their list.

"Ethan?"

"No...."

"Daniel?"

"Nah- I got a drunken uncle named daniel."

It would seem however that they were not making much progress with the baby names. It had to be set onto the back burner for a while as they were heading back to nova scotia for the weekend.

It was stressful trying to get everything in order to go home for just three days. Y/N and Nathan were aware that their parents were concerned as to why the two of them were suddenly coming home. It made them worry. Why were their two successful kiddos abandoning everything for a weekend?

"Are you sure we have everything packed?" Y/N asked nervously.

Nathan smiled. "Yes- I have the numbers for the emergency doctor that Dr.Robins recommended and I have everything you put on your list."

Y/N gulped. "Okay I just- What if your mum doesn't like me?" she asked.

Nathan furrowed his brows letting out a laugh. "What do you mean? She loves you."

Shaking her head, Y/N gasped frustradely. "Nathan, she knows me as your friend- not your wife... and certainly not as the mother of your child." she whimpered.

Before she could stop, the tears started pouring freely- in the last few weeks, she had been more emotional than she ever had before.

Stupid Horomones.

Instantly reaching out and wrapping his arms around her, Nathan hummed. "Babe it's going to be fine- my mother loves you... everything will be alright I promise you."

Nodding into his chest, Y/N took a deep breath- wiping her tears and doing her best to calm herself. She couldn't get stressed like this. Not unless she wanted to risk hurting their son. And that certainly was not going to happen.

Helping nate take the suitcases to the door- with much protests- they were finally ready to leave, their uber downstairs and ready to take them to the airport.

Kissing her husband, Y/N took a breath. Reminding herself that she could do this.

The drive to the airport was drawn out due to the traffic along the highway. There was an accident on the freeway which set everyone behind schedule. While nathan was concerned about them missing their flight, Y/N couldn't stop thinking about the people in the accident, she wondered if they had been driving by themselves, if they were a married couple- or maybe it was a kid on their way home... she couldn't shake the feeling of fear in her stomach.

"Nate... is this a good idea?" she asked worriedly. "What if something goes wrong with the plane- our baby-"

"Is going to be just fine." Nathan reassured her, reaching over the centre console and holding her hand tightly. "We'll be fine, the baby will be fine and the plae will be fine." just like she had done for him in the doctors, he consoled her- hoping to take away all her worries.

While her fears were diminished entirely, Y/N feel good knowing that Nathan was with her- even though their relationship had progressed quickly, she knew that he would always protect her. He had done so when they were just friends, his tendencies would only be stronger now that they were married and expecting a child.

The world seemed to pass YN by in a blur, she couldn't recall packing up their luggage or boarding the plane- all she knew was that she closed her eyes and laid her head against the window of the plane, and suddenly she awoke in canada.

Her tired form was drug through the familiar Halifax airport and she couldn't help but grin. The drowsiness was slowly lifting from her haze as she took in the familiar surroundings of her home. The clearwater market at the airport was still in the same spot it had always been, she just the chicken burger take-out window in the food court.

As they made their way to the baggage claim, Y/N felt her heart stop. Nathan's family was standing at the carousel waiting anxiously. She wondered if they could tell she was pregnant from a first glance. Nathan had already told them that they were married- and well, the news wasn't taken well at first. They were shocked and hurt that they hadn't been made aware of their relationship. But the news of them welcoming a baby in four months had yet to be discussed.

Hidden underneath Nathan's large hoodie- Y/N's bump was growing steadily. It wasn't entirely noticeable as her bump was relatively small, but everything about her was small- she had a petite frame and that was just how she carried herself.

"Nate!" his mother cried out- followed by his sister who both rushed towards the two of them. The man wrapped his arms around his family and kissed them on the cheek, making sure that he didn't leave anyone out.

Y/N's worries were quickly forgiven as his mother and sister hugged her as well. They may have been upset that they didn't get a wedding, but they were still happy to have Y/N be an official part of the family. "And hello- Mrs MacKinnon." his mother winked at Y/N, Playful and teasing her just like when she was a kid.

After making pleasantries with His family, they grabbed their luggage and loaded into the truck- driving through the familiar province. Nathan's family had originally lived in Springhill but since his career in the nhl, they had moved into central nova scotia which included the capital city Halifax.

Settling into an easy conversation between nathan's parents and his sister, Y/N felt like she was reliving her childhood- except instead of having hidden feelings that resembled a crush, she was married- and her feelings were wide out in the open.

"So... You two are married." Nathan's sister smirked.

Glancing at Y/N, Nathan couldn't help but blush. "And were also expecting a child." he blurted out.

"WHAT"

y/n looked at his mother's reaction anxiously, fear erupted through her and she squeezed Nathan's hand tightly- her anxiety rolling off of her in waves.

Clenching his jaw, the hockey player nodded firmly. "We both wanted to start a family... we discussed it like adults- and as husband and wife, we decided to make a baby."

Y/N hated how cringey it sounded when he spoke about it formally, but they had been responsible about this- they were both committed and they were never going to turn their back on one another.

Processing the new information, their family was very quiet. It wasn't until Nathan's mother spoke up again did the tension cease to exist. "I'm gonna me a grandma." she grinned.

Y/N let out a sigh of relief and nodded. "Yes... yes you are." she laughed softly.

It may have been awkward, but slowly everyone was coming around.
