billie walked out of the room and crept into the dining room where jade was sitting, her back faced to her.
"jade?" billie whispered and the only response she got was a small hum.
"can we talk?" billie sat in the chair across from the older girl.
"about...?" jade looked at her. "uh, what happened last night? you kind of just stormed out."
"nothing happened last night." jade shrugged it off.
"but-- jade, we kissed."
"no we didn't." billie furrowed her brows at her and leaned back into the chair.
"are you seriously gonna deny what we both know hap-"
"billie, listen," jade shut her laptop harshly, "what happened last night should have never happened and it won't happen again. so let's just forget that it ever did."
"you just think i did that just for the fun of it, news flash, i kiss people when i like them."
"i am so not the person you should be liking."
"why not? 'cause you're a girl? y'know it's weird to tell a girl to not kiss another girl when you're a little gay birdie yourself."
"what? that's not even close-- Billie, you're my student, i can't kiss you like that-"
"uh correction? i kissed you." billie pursed her lips in confusion.
"it doesn't make a difference, i should've never even got in the same bed with you, 'cause i clearly sent the wrong message."
"you kissed me back. at least for a moment, i think."
"that's the problem, billie. i kissed you back and i shouldn't have. i'm mad at myself for not regretting it."
"so you're not pissed at me is what i'm getting at here."
"not at you, no." jade sighed heavily. "listen, i'm eighteen, i'm allowed to be with whoever i want."
"not me, you can't."
"and why not?"
"uh maybe, just maybe i could go to jail? have you thought about that?"
"you only go to prison if someone finds out."
"someone's gonna find out eventually which is why it's going to stay what it is, a simple kiss that won't ever happen, deal?"
"no, not a deal. i need you and everyone else to stop treating me like a little kid, you make it sound like I wasn't in the right mind or something."
"i'm not saying anything like that, though."
"mhm," billie nodded and looked away from her before turning to look back at her.
"so you don't expect it to be awkward between us at all, then?" she asked.
"of course it will be awkward, i know that. but i'm sorry for taking advantage of you in that moment and it won't happen again--"
"no, i don't think you're getting it. i want it to happen again, i understand that you're anxious and nervous and that's there so much that you can lose if anyone finds out, but no one will--"
"you can't be possibly trying to convince me to get into a relationship with you. billie, for the last time, it's illegal."
billie sighed heavily and ran her fingers through her hair,
"i really don't give a damn about that, okay? i like you, like really like you, and you're treating me like i'm some little kid who needs to be taught right from wrong."
