Rainbows

You sit across from them and feel that same welling tightness in your throat that you felt the very first day you laid eyes on them.
"What?"
You snap out of your thoughts, eyes meeting theirs again.
"Nothin... there's a rainbow behind you, that's all" you say.
Yeah there was a rainbow, but it wasn't like it could catch your attention, not when they were sitting there.
"We have work to do" they say, looking back down at the papers.
"Right... work"
"What? Would you rather be doing something else?" Their voice raises and you feel yourself wanting to recoil.
"Yeah maybe so" you almost snap back.
"Yeah? Like what?" They now put the pen down and cross their arms, their full attention is on you. Great.
"I-uh I don't know" you stammer. "It's a Friday, can't we like... work on Monday?"
They raise an eyebrow.
"Or not..." you finish
A moment of silence passes "Fine. But I get to choose where we go and what we do"
The nerve!
"That's hardly fair you know"
"Oh sure it is, now, cmon we don't have all day" they say, reminding you of the inevitable.
"You have to go home soon"
"Don't remind me" you roll your eyes taking their hand.
"What are we doing?"!
"Following that rainbow, it might lead us somewhere"
"But isn't this towards your place?" You ask as they drag you down the road.
"Yep"
"We're going there?" A hint of excitement enters your heart.
"I don't know maybe"
"What about the time-"
"Screw that, let's just go"
