3x12 ~ THE SPANISH TEACHER ~
••••••

"All right, guys!" Mr. Schue said, walking into the choir room. "Let me ask you something. Where do you think you'll be in the year 2030?"

"Broadway." Rachel and Kurt answered simultaneously, before smiling at each other. "Twinsies!"

"Walking." Artie added to the answer chain.

"In jail, or dead." Puck commented. "Or both."

"I mean, that's 18 years away." Lexi muttered. "Hopefully married with kids." She smiled, as Sam squeezed her hand.

"Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, you're going to need to be able to speak Spanish." Mr. Schue continued, as Lexi raised an eyebrow. Sure, she spoke Spanish already - Columbian was half of her ethnicity, other than Ukrainian. She didn't think it was a must though. "The reality is, by 2030, more people on this planet will be speaking Spanish than any other language. The world is changing. Our culture is changing. And that needs to be reflected in here. So for our next assignment, we're only doing songs written, or performed by someone Latin, or Latin descent. Or English songs performed bilingually."

"Oh, I'm bilingual." Brittany commented, as Lexi chuckled.

"You can also call us Latinix. It's a gender-neutral neologism." Lexi spoke up, referring to his mention of Latin and Latin already unimpressed where the assignment was headed.

"Uh, Mr. Schue, thought I love that we're finally getting all Lima Sound Machine in here, why now?" Santana asked.

"Oh, Santana, because it's long overdue." Mr. Schue answered with a smile, causing both Santana and Lexi to wear disapproving expressions. "The truth is, I love all things Latin. I mean, I love Latin food, Latin art, Latin people..."

"You don't know any Latin people." Santana pointed out with a scoff.

"You can't just formulate it like that either." Lexi agreed, folding her arms.

"I know. Um..." Mr. Schue said, relieved when a man walked into the choir room. "Guys, this is David Martinez. David Martinez, this is the Glee Club."

Lexi had to bite her lip to prevent her mouth from hanging open. She could sense Sam staring at her. He was making sure she wasn't checking the man out. She let out a chuckle, and leaned into his arms, causing him to relax, as he pulled her closer to him.

"Hello, everyone." David Martinez greeted, as Lexi could sense the whole group basically checking the older man out. Who could blame them? "It's a pleasure."

"David here is one of my many Latin friends." Mr. Schue began.

"Many..." Lexi muttered sarcastically.

"And, uh, he's interested in starting his own night school Glee Club, after hours." Their teacher continued, wrapping his arm around Mr. Martinez's shoulder. "So, uh, I invited him to come watch us get our duende on."

"Duende?" Finn frowned.

"Ugh, it means dwarf, you ass." Santana scoffed, rolling her eyes, while Lexi wanted to sink into the floor.

"Now, I'm completely confused." Sam frowned. "So what's the assignment?"

"To sing in Spanish, with duende." Mr. Schue answered, as everyone stared confused.

"Which, yes, literally means dwarf, but metaphorically, it means to have Spanish soul. To be filled with Spanish passion." He clarified.

"Will, can I.... Hablar con ellos?" David asked, as the teacher stared at the man confused. He nodded anyway.
