3x17 ~ DANCE WITH SOMEBODY ~
••••••
After hearing about Whitney's death, she was the topic of conversation amongst everyone in the choir room while they waited for Mr Schue to arrive.

The topic was especially argumentally heated between Lexi and Rachel - thanks to Mercedes mentioning the movie, The Bodyguard, and that's when Rachel proudly stated it was originally written for her idol, Barbara Streisand. Lexi, being the brashly honest person she was, had to correct her. It had been written for Diana Ross after all.

"Actually, dwarf, The Bodyguard was written for Diana Ross." Lexi said, folding her arms, ignoring Rachel's glares she was sending her.

"No, Lex."

"Don't call me Lex." Lexi said through gritted teeth. "That nickname is only for specific people."

"Whatever." Rachel shook her head. "You are wrong, okay? The Bodyguard was originally written for Barbara Streisand." She argued, as Lexi rolled her eyes. This shouldn't even be an argument.

"No, dwarf, you are wrong." Lexi spat, as Sam chuckled under his breath, wrapping his arm around Lexi, bringing her closer to him. "It was written for Diana Ross."

"It wasn't!" Rachel protested.

"Actually, Rachel, it was supposed to be Diana Ross, and Steve McQUeen, back in the '70s." Mr. Schue said, as he walked into the room. Lexi smirked, and sent Rachel a "Ha, you're wrong, I'm right.' look, causing her to scoff annoyed.

"Thank you, Mr. Schue. for officially stating who was meant for the role." Lexi commented, sarcasm evident. "Not everything was for Barbara." She added, sending another look Rachel's way, before turning back to the front.

"I've been doing some research to prepare for this week's lesson." Mr. Schue spoke up again, as he walked towards the white board. Mercedes smiled when he wrote Whitney on the board.

"Oh, my god, yes!" She cheered, with a large smile. "It's about time we did a Whitney tribute!"

"Are we sure that's appropriate?" Sam frowned, as Lexi turned to him with a raised eyebrow.

"You did not just ask that." Mercedes said, as she turned to glare at the boy.

"I just mean, didn't Whitney kind of have a lot of problems?" Sam asked, a little unsure, due to the stares the girls were sending him.

"She had a hard life, Sam." Mercedes retorted, as Sam raised his hands in surrender. "And?"

"Look, this week isn't about passing judgement on Whitney." Mr. Schue interrupted the growing discussion. "It's about celebrating her legacy, honoring her memory, her accomplishments."

"Which I will happily list for you." Kurt offered, as Mercedes smiled.

"But I also want you guys to use her songs to get underneath your own feelings. To express and explore what's really going on with you." Mr. Schue explained.

"Come again?" Lexi said, as she made a "what the hell?" face. She wasn't that confused, but the way he formulated it was off.

"I don't get it, Mr. Schue." Santana said, with a frown. "What's really going on with us?"

"Well, for most of you, these next few weeks will be your last here at McKinley. Lots of changes coming up, lots of... Saying good-bye. To your friends, to your significant others, to the last four years of your life. For a young person, all that transition can be overwhelming. So it's easier to focus on other things. Like not being about to say good-bye to Whitney Houstan."

"What are you talking about?" Santana asked again.

"Santana, it's okay. I get it." Mr. Schue said, as the girl only grew more annoyed. "You're hanging on to Whitney because it's difficult to handle the upheaval in your own lives."

"We're hanging on to Whitney because she was incredible and we love her, so don't put your baggage on us."

"You guys, Mr. Schue's attempt to understand us, though misguided, doesn't matter." Rachel spoke up.

"Wait for it..." Lexi said, knowing that the girl was going to bring herself into the equation. She always did.

"What matters is that I start rehearsing Whitney's version of The Star Spangled Banner immediately. It is the Mount Everest of anthems."

"There it is." Lexi raised her hands annoyed. "There's always you involved in everything. You know, maybe you can hop into the Paramount Pictures movie intro with the mountains and the stars. I, for one, wouldn't mind implementing you into that intro segment." She commented, crossing her arms. Sam chuckled again, bringing her closer into his arms.
