Meanwhile, on the walk to the dorms, Shinsou was trying to get through that thick skull of yours.
Heaving his backpack higher on his left shoulder, he raised an eyebrow as you gave yet another lame excuse to cover up your feelings for the clueless airhead.
"You do know that he's not seeing that pink alien girl, right?" He drew out languidly with his brow creased irritably, annoyed that you didn't seem to get it.
"You mean Mina-chan?" You corrected, throwing him a pointed glance only to roll your eyes when he shrugged indifferently.
He hadn't bothered to learn everyone's names, said it was pointless and distracting from his studies. You knew the truth. He was just lazy.
Not because he told you upfront but because you guys hung out regularly with your niche in the General Studies class and he knew all of their names by heart. But you supposed you understood. After being told his quirk was villainous for the majority of his life, to be surrounded by people who said otherwise was rare.
It was almost like he had them and you as friends so he didn't need anyone else. But that didn't stop Class A from trying to befriend him.
You found it hilarious that Yaoyorozu would invite him down for dinner only for mashed potatoes to be flung in his hair the second he begrudgingly agreed.
Kaminari may or may not have been the one responsible for the starch that suddenly went airborne but he was holding the guilty spoon that soon convicted him and sentenced him to a fifteen-minute timeout instilled by a strict Iida.
A soft, spring breeze swirled around you like a hug, bringing with it some cherry blossom petals from the trees that lined the walkway as you two got closer to Heights Alliance.
Shinsou tried a different approach after seeing how you dodged his question. "I don't see why you care so much about them. They aren't even seeing each other like that, the sparkly one with the laser said so."
He expected you to tease him about calling out Aoyama like that before defending the teen but you didn't do either one of those things.
Shinsou stopped in his tracks when an unreadable expression crossed your face. He hadn't ever seen your eyes like that.
Hollow, like you had already given up on something you could never have hoped to have. Mournful, like you had acknowledged that your feelings would never, ever, be returned.
"The teachers don't really want us to date, so it makes sense that they would keep it a secret." You mused aloud and Shinsou rolled his eyes beside you, kicking a pebble across the sidewalk as you remained oblivious to what everyone saw around you.
It wasn't that Ashido hadn't already tried to talk to you about this and clear up the misconception, it was just that you didn't believe her. She had cornered him more than once, pleading if he could get you to stop thinking that. He couldn't do much for her even if he wanted to. You seriously thought that they were dating.
And there was no amount of proof or persuading that anyone could present that would change your mind.
The gears started turning in Shinsou's head and he ran to catch up with you since you hadn't slowed down.
"Why do you believe they're dating so bad?" He asked, glancing at you out of the corner of his eye. "Don't you think that short-tempered idiot would be the type not to hide if he was in a relationship?"
You knew he was right. He would probably shout it from the rooftops, making no effort at all to hide it as he let the world proudly know that she belonged to him.
