Chapter 13- Large Family

While the previous case did not bring me much profit, however I was able to earn a few meals. Even though I was able to earn meals, in the end I have to rely on my own hands to gain profit, but that's wrong, it was Qin Yi Heng's hands that I will be relying on. It was quite a coincidence, and marked a turn in my fortune. Not a week had passed, Yuan Zhen contacted us saying that there is a family that wishes to sell their old house. It is said that several generations of people live in this house. Unfortunately, the location is not favorable, and it was located in a rural area. I had thought if this place was taken down from the foundation of the Forbidden City, it would be posted, but it is better than nothing, so we went to take a look at it.

This time, the journey is really far away and the place is not navigable. We can only ride a train, and use small buses to reach there. After reaching a place I was a little disappointed, because I didn't expect it to be so remote. Previously I had checked the location of the house on an electronic map and it was near the city. I soon saw the mansion after we went out of the car. It is indeed antique and looks very grand and must have considerable age. While estimating the house's price, I asked Qin Yi Heng, is this house too old?

He didn't answer and titled his head to glance at it. He said that the layout of the house is prosperous. Even though the family might not be that wealthy or prosperous, however the family is safe and happy and he wondered why the family wishes to sell it.

After we enter the place, I discovered what Qin Yi Heng said is correct, the family is lucky and happy and even made me a bit jealous. The one that talked to us is the oldest son of the house, and I assumed him to be around 60 years old. This old man was in good spirits and took us around the house for a long time. My intention is to let Qin Yi Heng inspect this place, and I tried to stall the old man by talking to him. However, I thought about it- there is still the rest of the family around, so I asked Qin Yi Heng in a low voice, how is it so far?

Qin Yi Heng said, what is there to see, this is a big family and they are so happy, what could be there? He would even believe it if a god resides here, but a spirit? That is very unlikely.

Listening to him say so, I actually agree. However, Yuan Zhen clearly told us that this house is haunted, then how come this house is actually so prosperous?

So, I asked the old man whether there is a spirit haunting the house.

Who knew that the eldest son would laugh while saying, that is accurate, then he pointed to a room in the house while saying, there is a spirit in that room, it always made problems ever since the day he was born and still make problems even now.

I looked at the direction pointed by the old man, it turns out there is a side room with closed doors and windows, however there doesn't seem to be unnatural thing about it, if the old man had not pointed it out, I would completely fail to notice the existence of that room. Qin Yi Heng also looked very surprised by the room, and he didn't seem to see anything from his unperturbed expression.

Then, I probed the old man further, how does the spirit in this house make trouble?

The old man laughed for a while, and took me to that room. After opening the door's house and seeing the sunlight enter it, I can see the dust covering that room. This side room is very small and there is a bed on its left and a lot of things on the right, it seemed that they have turned the room into a storage room. The old man brought us inside, and pointed at that bed while saying that the bed has been left by his ancestors of several generations. At that time, his ancestor was an officer in the imperial court. When he returned to his hometown, the emperor granted the land to his family. Until the founding of the new Chinese Republic, half of the county's land was basically owned by their family. Later, land reform and some disputes with land officials had led to the family's decline. Fortunately, a branch in their family who is successful in doing business bought this old house back. In this way, their family went back to live in this house.
