******** a month later ********it's been a month since you started working at jujutsu high and it's been going strangely good. nanami has never brought up the past and working alongside him is bearable but it's still very awkward. you haven't really grown close anyone at work, except for gojo. we just have so much in common and we are the only ones in the office who are younger, so it was easy to befriend him.
"thank god it's friday" gojo sat beside you as nodded in agreement and pulled out a bento box for gojo. every friday, you'd pack both yours and gojo's lunch and we'll have lunch together. it's just something that we decided to do because, no surprise, gojo was popular and everyone wanted to eat lunch with him. but gojo said he loved your food so much, that he'll block every friday for us to have lunch but only if you made it. "my students are being a pain in the ass" he grunted as you giggled.
"they just annoy you because they think you're the best" you teased as he looked over at you.
"you think i'm the best?" he asked.
"of course not" you joked. "all i'm saying, is that your students really look up to you. they act that way because they're comfortable around you" you said.
"are you the new student counsellor?" he joked as you rolled your eyes and threw an orange slice at his head.
"ha ha, very funny" you said.
"you threw food at me! you're so childish" he whined as you giggled and continued eating your delicious orange. "i'm gonna tell nanami" he pouted.
"go ahead, tell him. it's not like he would care" you teased him.
"me and nanami are the bestest of friends. of course he would care" gojo said as you nodded, pretending you believe him. the bell rang as you looked over at gojo.
"i wish we could just leave" you joked. gojo looked at you with a small smile on his face.
"let's go. i'll ditch school with ya" gojo said as you started laughing as you stood up.
"i'll see you later" you waved as you turned around and made your way to your desk. you sighed as you swung your chair around, looking over at nanami's office. it has been closed for the whole day. he hasn't even come out to eat. not to mention, no smoke breaks! he must be really busy. you looked down at your lunch that was barely eaten. you stood up and walked over to nanami's office. you knocked before opening the door.
"thank you sir. we'll chat soon. enjoy the weekend" nanami said as he hung up the phone. he looked tired and busy. you felt bad since you had nothing to do. "what, miss (Y/N)?" nanami asked as you quickly walked over to him and placed your lunch in front of him.
"i thought you might have been hungry" you smiled as he glanced down at the food then looked back up at you. "and i've come to offer you my hands! i'm done all my work, so just tell me what you need me to do" you pulled a chair closer to his desk and sat down. he just looked at you, slightly surprised at your actions. "besides, it's friday. we should work together so we can leave early!" you smiled, slightly tilting your head. you looked over at nanami and he was staring at you with wide eyes. oh no, did you say something wrong? you hope it was okay for you to offer him help. "sorry if that was too—"
"it's fine" nanami cut you off. "i guess you can help me out. but no talking, i like working in silence" nanami said as you cheerfully nodded.
"just give me work to do!" you said as pushed a punch of papers towards you.
"go through these and see if you can spot any mistakes" he said as you nodded. you read through some of these essays and you suddenly felt dumb. these are high school students and are using words that you don't even knew existed. this school must be pretty prestige.
"how long have you taught here?" you asked, briefly looking over at nanami.
"i thought i told you i liked working in silence" nanami sighed as you blushed.
"oh, sorry sir!" you giggled, "y'know, we're complete opposites. i can't work without talking" you softly smiled. "but i'll keep my mouth shut. i promise" you said as you looked down at the papers and continued to look for mistakes and whatnot.
"i've been at this school for 15 years" he said as you looked up at him.
"15 years?" you gasped, "that's a long time, sir" you said as he chuckled.
"i guess so" he said as you bit your lip, holding back your smile. even though nanami stated he liked working in silence, here he is talking to you.
"how many assistants have you scared away?" you joked.
"i've only had 3, including you" he answered as your eyes widened.
"woah!" you gasped. "that's pretty impressive, so you and sara must be pretty close" you said as he pressed his lips together.
"not really. she keeps a strict professional relationship and she doesn't really talk about her personal life" he said as you pressed your lips together.
"that's boring" you frowned as nanami stared into your eyes.
"is it?" he hummed.
"yes! work is boring as it is. having someone you like working with not only makes work more enjoyable, but also makes you actually want to come" you softly chuckled.
"interesting thought" nanami commented. you blushed as you started nervously playing with the hem of your skirt.
"anyways... you should eat some food" you softly spoke as nanami looked up at you.
"are you the boss now?" he asked as you blushed harder.
"i'm sorry if that was inappropriate, sir. i didn't mean to—"
"i was joking, miss (Y/N)" he cut you off. you pressed your lips together. you are so nervous around nanami that you don't even know when he is being serious or not! "did you make this?" he asked, looking down at the food.
"yes. so no complaints" you joked. nanami pushed his papers aside and placed your lunch in front of him. you bit your lip as you watched him take a bite. you hope it was good.
"it's good" he said as you felt your heart flutter. did nanami just compliment you?!
"thank you sir. gojo said that it was too spicy—"
"gojo?" nanami asked, looking up at you.
"oh, yeah. um... every friday i bring lunch for gojo and i" you explained as he pressed his lips together. it grew silent as you awkwardly continued going through the papers. you don't really know what else to talk about.
you are trying your best to move on from our one night stand but it's harder than you thought it was going to be. you keep thinking about it. and it doesn't help that nanami is completely over it and really is acting as if nothing happened between us. it's like that night meant nothing to him, when it meant a lot to you. nanami was the first person you have been with since kou left you. it was a small step towards moving on, so of course that night was special. but to nanami, it was probably just another one night stand.
"you can head off now. you've helped me a lot today" he said as you looked up at him.
"eh?" you asked, confused. "i don't mind staying longer. you're behind and i said i would help. i don't really have plans today. well... sometimes kohana does drag me out to go drinking. but this would be a good excuse to cancel. although i—"
"it's fine. you can go miss (Y/N)" nanami cut you off as you pressed your lips together. you stood up and bowed.
"okay. i'm off then" you said as nanami just looked at you. your cheeks burned up as you softly smiled. "have a good night" you said before turning around and walking out of his office. you grabbed your jacket and purse and headed out.
