Chapter 2
Delilah drove home thinking about the situation she was in and the person she was in it with. It wasn't that he was a bad person, on the contrary he was a surprising good person. During the fire that destroyed the first headquarters of the firm, Joss had risked his life to save some of the employees that had been trapped in the fire, they later found out that if it wasn't for his heroic act, they would not have survived long enough for the firefighters to rescue them. Thanks to his efforts, there were no casualties from the fire.
He would make a good husband and a caring father, she thought. She gasped when she realized the train of thought that her mind had taken, why would she be considering him in that light?
She shook her head and tried to focus instead on parking her car in the garage of her apartment. She turned her key in her silver door and entered.
Her apartment reflected her love for silver, white and black as the surroundings and the furniture were of that color and was homily arranged to eliminate a sterile feel by fusing the black into the white and silver arrangements.
She was walking past her kitchen when she noticed her best friend Karen cooking in the there. It was a regular occurrence so she disregarded it and went to the bathroom to take a shower.
She was in the shower when she tried to figure out if Joss was really attracted to her like he said, to her she was pretty average. With her waist length black hair with the silver streaks she had had put in on her twenty-fifth birthday a month ago. She was five foot nine with a slim body with curves, light skinned with a slight tan, her ice blue eyes coupled by long lashes and full cherry lips. She was beautiful, but past experiences made her doubt herself. Joss on the other hand was six foot three, with shiny black hair, his very tanned skin spoke of his Greek heritage, he was well built, obviously worked out, his eyes were light green with flecks of gold that were quite mesmerizing. He was every woman's dream man. He was kind, honest and a complete gentlemen, while her past was one of mistakes, and things that still haunt her to this day. Is that really something that she should bring into another person's life?
Shaking off her self-doubt, she got dressed and exited the bathroom and headed to her bedroom to get the gift she had bought for her best friend a few days before.
She entered the kitchen, "Hey there Karen, sup?"
Karen jumped in shock and turned around. "Are you nuts?!! You don't just walk up to someone and scare them like that??!! What was going through your head woman?"
Delilah laughed and shrugged. "It's your own fault for being so deaf. I came in, had a shower and THEN I came in here, its not fault you refused to acknowledge my presence."
Karen sighed." I'd say you were lying but I know that I can be totally oblivious to my environment. But its partially your fault, how was I to know that you would be coming back so soon when I know for a fact that you barely just left for work. A little warning would be nice you know." She pouted.
Delilah walked over to the stove and smelled the contents, "Mmm. Sweet and sour beef. Been a while since you made that for me, what's the special occasion?"
"Have you really forgotten that it's been three years?"
"Three years since what?" Delilah asked, puzzled as to what her best friend could be referring to.
"Three years since the divorce. I guess it's a good sign that you've forgotten about it. And here I made your favorite to try and cheer you up. Guess it's not necessary. I'm glad for that."
"I honestly want nothing more to forget it but it's not that simple. Sometimes it feels like it was yesterday, and there are days like today that I have way more important things on my mind and it's like it never happened."
Karen thought that over for a few moments and then pushed Delilah towards the living room. "Go sit, I'll bring the food to you, it's my day to spoil you."
Delilah laughed, "Don't space out and burn it again ok?" .
Karen scuffed at her comment, "Just go sit, pest."
