TW: More violence and torture
I have read so many fanfics I can't remember their names (also I suck at names of books) so if I accidentally copy an idea from one in specific a LOT, please let me know and I'll credit them.
(yes "little birdie" is a reference to featherweight)
A note (I should put this in the decription): There will be no shipping or swearing in this book.
-----
It had been three days and there was no sign of Grian- except for one.
Xisuma had found his coordinates in the End, but they were glitchy and occasionally showed symbols that no one recognized.
The Nether group, Mumbo, and Xisuma had moved to the End. No one had seen any traces of life.
Mumbo was absolutely terrified by now. His best friend was missing, enduring who knew what torture, and there was nothing Mumbo could do.
----
More time passed. More pain. More purple magic.
Then, one day, they took out and put him on the floor of the huge room in which he'd first arrived, the one he'd been hanging above.
"Hello, little birdie," the giant Watcher's voice said.
Grian shakily stood, his wings limp behind him.
"Good, good birdie!" it said. "Now, time for a test."
That didn't sound good. If all the other things he'd gone through hadn't been tests...
The purple magic engulfed him in agony once more.
----| New POV? SCAR? |----
"Mumbo, X, come see this," Scar called.
He'd been working on casting the seeing spell, watching for changes.
Now, there'd been a change. Grian had been dragged out of what Scar now knew to be a hanging cage and deposited onto the floor of a giant room.
Mumbo and Xisuma came over to Scar and watched with him as Grian stood up, then was lifted off the floor by a ball of purple.
"What is that ?" Mumbo asked.
"Magic... I think I know what kind, I'll tell you after," Scar replied.
As the three watched, the feathers on Grian's wings changed colors, from bloodstained blue, yellow, and red to white, to purple, and finally, to a dulled version of Grian's usual red, yellow, and blue.
Scar's suspicions were confirmed. Unable to watch any longer, he shut off the vision crystal.
"I know who he's with. I don't know where he is, but I know we need to work fast. I know that we already are, but this is probably the worst place he could be..." Scar felt himself pale.
"Care to elaborate?" Xisuma asked. "Not to be rude, but none of that was really helpful."
Scar took a deep breath. "I recognize that magic. That is Watcher magic. Watchers are a powerful race, but pretty much evil. They turned from good a long time ago. As all magic users can, Watchers are able to imbue things with their own magic, turning the thing into a tool or weapon, like my crystals. But Watchers... they imbue living things with magic. Animals, plants.."
Scar trailed off, and felt tears in his eyes.
Mumbo's eyes widened. "People. Players. They're trying to... oh my goodness, oh my goodness, ohmygoodness..."
Xisuma managed to finish the thought, but even his voice cracked as he said it. "They're trying to turn G-Grian into a tool."
-----
Xisuma called all the hermits back together. If the Watchers were magical, they were probably hiding Grian magically and the hermits wouldn't be able to find him normally.
"Scar has provided us with-" Xisuma took a breath before continuing-"new information regarding Grian. I believe the best way to find Grian will be to use magic. Scar, do you think you can show us the way to..." Xisuma turned to Scar without finishing.
"I will find a way, no matter what," Scar told Xisuma.
"When can we leave?" Xisuma asked.
"Right now," Scar said.
Xisuma walked over to Scar. Nodding to Xisuma, Scar fireworked into the sky. Xisuma waited a few seconds, then followed him.
We're going to save Grian.
