My body jolts forward into a sitting position as I wake up. It's been nearly two weeks that every night I have been dreaming of the same man. He's tall, tanned, slim but muscular. I don't recognise him but he does look familiar. I just can't seem to pinpoint why I am dreaming of this man non stop. I looked at the alarm clock and it's eight thirty in the morning.
I throw the covers of me and make my way through my apartment to the kitchen. Thankfully, I've managed to secure a job here in Vegas as a waitress in a really well known casino. It isn't the american dream I'm living but it pays the bills and keeps me fed. I nurse the cup of freshly made coffee in my hand and I pick up my iPhone. I go to contacts and select Daisy's number. She was the first person I met when I arrived here and has go on to be my best friend, and life support. I press, Call.
"Aurora!" She exclaims with happiness.
"Hi..." I mumbled exhausted.
"Oh no... what's wrong?"
"I dreamt of him again" I admitted with a soft sigh. "I've been two weeks and I keep dreaming of this guy."
She gives a soft sigh of her own and I know exactly what she's going to say to me. She may be my life support but it's not just that. She's the only one apart from my family that know about my, 'Gift'. I've watched films about people who are able to see spirits and talk to them. My life at one point was all about the program Ghost Whisperer. I never wanted people to reject me like she had been at first. So, I kept it to myself. Daisy had found out when I accidentally asked who was the man staring at her from the end of the bar. She freaked but she's all for it now.
"Maybe your going to meet him and your body is preparing you?" She suggests, suddenly all happy again, over the phone.
"Preparing me for what?" I asked, confusingly.
"Maybe you'll like him" She teases and I roll my eyes.
I make my excuses that I need to run and get ready for a Skype call with my mom. She falls for it. I sit the phone on the counter along with my cup and then run my hands over my face. Maybe she's right. Maybe I need to meet this man so get him out of my head.
I decide to have a quiet day in the house until it's late afternoon and I have no choice but to get ready for my backshift at the casino. I shower and dress in my uniform. I pin my red locks up in a neat bun and head out the door. I don't live far from the casino, about a thirty minute walk through the crowded streets. The sun is fading but she's still there, so It makes my journey a little more pleasing. All the way I listen to my iPod. A varied mix of Enya, Enigma and Linkin Park.
I am greeted none other by Daisy and another girl I don't recognise in the locker room. As Daisy is the manager, I'm guessing that's she hired a new girl. I put my stuff in the locker and change my sneakers for black flats, and wrap my little black pouch around my waist. For my tips, People's drink orders...and all that. She doesn't engage in conversation which I'm thankful for so I can get to work straight away. I walk out and look around as I head to the bar. I'm stopped in my tracks.
There he is. It's him. It's...actually him. I blink and immediately retreat to the locker room. I close the door hastily and sink to the floor. Daisy and the new girl are at my side immediately.
"Aurora!" She squeals, "What on earth!?"
"It's him. He's out there" I whisper.
"The man from your dream? Which table!?"
"Table four. He's got black spiked hair. A moustache and small goatee combo."
Before I know it, She's moved me to one of the bench's and immediately peeks her head out the door and closes it as hastily as I had not moments before.
"Zak Bagans?" She gasped, "You've been dreaming of Zak Bagans!"
I frown and look to her, "You know him?"
"Who doesn't?" The new girl, intervenes. We both look at her. "He's the lead host and investigator on a ghost hunting show called, Ghost Adventures. He lives here in Vegas."
I put my head in my hands. He's a ghost hunter? This can not be fate. I don't believe in fate.
