Working Things Out

Zoey POV

I put the twins down for bed then looked at the clock and sighed. It was 10 o'clock and for the 3rd day in a row, I'd put all the kids to bed by myself because Jared had to work late. I understand, of course, but it was hard sometimes and it sucked to do it all by myself, especially when he said he was going to be home between 8 and 9 tonight.

I climbed into bed and texted him goodnight then put my phone on the charger and tried to get some sleep.

Right as I was about to fall asleep, Tom came into the room and said, "Z mom?"

I sat up and said, "yes sweetie?"

He said, "when is daddy gonna be home?"

I smiled and patted the bed next to me. He walked over and sat down, clutching his baby blanket.

I said, "Daddy's got to work super late tonight so I'm not sure when he's going to be home okay?"

He nodded and said, "okay... Zoey?"

I kissed his head, "hmm?"

"Can I sleep in here to wait for him?"

I said sure then laid down and he snuggled into my side. A few hours later, I woke up at about 1 am because I heard one of the twins on the baby monitor. As I got out of bed to go check on them, I noticed that Shep and Odette had somehow snuck their way into the bed as well.

I smiled, a little sadly, at the sight then went to check on them.

As I changed Nevaeh's diaper and got her back to sleep, I thought about Jared being gone so late. Even though I knew it was normal for him to be out like this, and the kids were used to him being gone because of Supernatural, all four of us still got used to him being home. I got used to sleeping next to him at night and the kids got used to having us both tuck them in for bed. I know they understood and I know they were happy he was at least still around more than with Supernatural but I also know they were probably upset and confused. I needed to talk to Jared as soon as possible because he needed to figure something out, not for me (I could take him not being around if I needed to) but for his kids.

As I put Nevaeh back in her crib, I heard his truck pull into the driveway and knew that now was my chance.

I met him at the door and even though he looked exhausted, I said, "Hey, we need to talk."

We pecked lips then he said okay and we went to the couch.

I said, "Jared I love you and so do those kids and we all understand you have to work late but I really want you to try to figure out how to be home earlier from now on. I can handle you not being there if I have to, I understand it more than they do, but you have all three kids upstairs asleep in our bed because they missed their daddy."

Jared nodded and said, "okay. I'm sorry. I know I have been home late, we just somehow got behind on production and have been playing catch up this week but, I will talk to the kids in the morning and do what I can."

I said, "okay. Thank you. I love you."

He smiled and kissed my head then said, "I love you too. And thank you for taking care of them so much lately," as he pulled me into his chest.

I said, "you're welcome. I expected it to happen at some point but honestly didn't expect it until convention season now that you're filming here but, I also know how easy it can be to get behind."

He kissed my head again and said, "you truly are an angel, you know that?"

I smiled and turned to kiss him. He kissed back and we ended up with him laying on the couch and me on top of him.
