Carlette's POV
"So wait where do you live again?"

"Just a few miles from here, ill have to show you sometime," he smiled and winked as he reached across the brown and white checkered tablecloth for his cup of coffee.

I laugh at his attempt to flirt, "Yeah... That'd be great."

After i left the bookshop yesterday, i decided to come back again today to get accustomed to what i will be doing when i start on Monday. Tyler showed me around, and we started talking. After we finished up, he offered to take me to a small coffee shop that he goes to often. I accepted. It turns out that he isn't just a pretty face and may be the most intelligent and hilarious person I've ever met. We told each other alot about ourselves and he's nothing like I expected. I can already tell were going to be great friends.

"One question, why out of all places did you decide to get a job at the shop. I mean you're capable of getting such a better job somewhere else," he asked

"I could be asking you the same thing," I laugh.

"Seriously though, why?"

"Honestly I just really really need the money. "

"Oh... Might i ask why?"

"A various amount of reasons." I reply, unsure of his sudden curiosity.

His expression slowly changes. He suddenly looks distraught as if he was trying to make a decision but couldn't quite decide if he wanted to tell me or not. His grip tightens around his coffee cup, and he shifts his gaze to the table. He looks back up and opens his mouth in attempt to say something but then he closes it again and shakes his head. We lock eyes and he finally speaks in a serious, whispered tone.

"Listen, I know this is absolutely absurd, and we only just met, and Im not sure we have reached a certain level of trust, but if money is an issue, i know a way you can get it."

"Really? Thank you!! That means so much to-"

"Its not what you think."

"Well then what are-"

"Uhm drug exchanges, escorting, prostitution, anything the system needs you for," He bluntly states.

He said everything with a dead expression, except for the moments when he would occasionally glance both ways as if paranoid someone was listening in. I knew he meant business, but this is crazy. Maybe he's not exactly the person i thought he was.

"The system? Are you kidding? Tyler what are you talking about? Are you insane? You could get caught, I could get caught." I whisper in a harsh tone.

"My apologies. I probably shouldn't try to help you," he glares at me, stands up, and starts to storm out of the shop.

"Tyler wait," i command as i catch the door which he slammed in anger, "I wont say anything."

He doesnt bother to stop or turn around, and continues walking down the sidewalk.

"Tyler I swear to-"

He stops and turns his head back to look at me, breathing heavily.

"How do I know you wont?"

I thought it over. There wasn't really a way i could prove it to him. Of course I could always go with 'Because I promise' but what good would that do? We aren't twelve. After all, he was just trying to help me. Knowing what he's involved in, I guess that was the only way he could offer any. Im not scared of him. Im accustomed to being around brokenness, but this just seems too risky to even chance it. I probably shouldn't have been so rude to him. I really do need the money, and I am more than willing to get the money to keep me going and to help Taren in whatever way I can.

"That's what I thought."

He shakes his head and starts walking in the opposite direction.

"Because I'll be a part of it," I answer. I step back in shock, amazed at my own words, but it's too late to deny them now.
