Carlette's POV:

I woke up the next morning and rubbed the sleep from my eyes.

It was 8:20.

Crap.

Class started twenty minutes ago.

Hurriedly, i started trying to get ready for what was left of my classes, and im pretty sure i tripped at least three times in the process.

After almost choking on a bite of my apple,
I quickly got up and went to slide on my shoes. Snatching my keys off of the table, I grabbed my bag and ran out the door.

The long car ride there made me wish i would have just stayed in bed the whole day. This was more trouble than it was worth.

I pulled up to the school and grabbed my books out of the passenger seat, then started walking down the long, cracked concrete sidewalk and up the brick staircase that lead to the hallway.

I could hear someone having a conversation a little ways down, which usually wouldn't interest me, but the voice sounded familiar, sparking my curiosity.

I made a turn to the left on my way to the class room and stopped in my tracks. I stared at Taren for a second as he talked on his phone. He had his back turned towards the double doors at the end of the hallway. He seemed angry, or sad. I couldn't tell which, but i knew he wasn't happy.

Quickly, i ran back behind the corner and decided to listen in. I probably shouldn't be doing this, but something kept me in my place.

"Ugh... Yeah. I know .... I got the news last week...,"

I could only make out certain words, but i'll take what i can get.

All of a sudden everything went quiet, and my breathing hitched as i heard a muffled cry escape from him. I turned my head down the hall to get a glimpse of him punching the wall and then turning around and sliding down it to sit on the floor burying his face in his hands, sobbing.

Honestly in all the years we've been together, I've never seen him like this. Ever, and I couldn't take it.

It stayed silent for a couple of minutes, the occasional sob coming from behind me. I just sat on the floor, rested my back on the wall and waited. I felt a few tears run down my cheek but i wiped them away as soon as they came. Then he broke the silence.

"Im gonna tell her later.....Now isn't the best time... But what if.......I hope.... I know, but.....what if she leaves...... I know i cant pay for them yet.... I don't want her finding out....." His voice cracked with every few words he spoke, and I couldn't handle holding back the tears.

What's going on? So many thoughts ran through my head, and I can't seem to piece it together.

An overwhelming feeling came over me. And all I felt was complete sadness.

It took everything i had not to just run out and take him in my arms to tell him everything was going to be okay. I just wish i knew what he was going through, but he refused to tell me. But he will when he's ready. Its about the only thing i am sure of. I trust him. When he's ready to tell me, he will. Im positive.

I wiped a few more stray tears from my face, and went to the bathroom across from me to clean myself up. I went in and locked the door behind me and stared at my reflection. I wiped away the smudgy black mascara from under my eyes and fixed my hair again.

I heard three loud thumps and it occurred that someone was trying to get in. I stayed silent, hoping they would go away. Then they started jiggling the handle.

"Hello, anybody in there ?"

Taren

"Uhhh... Yeah, hang on one second."

I checked myself in the mirror again, and opened the door slowly. I came face to face with him. You could clearly tell he had been crying. His eyes were red and puffy, and his nose was running. He was holding the hand he had punched the wall with-blood dripping in his hand, which he quickly wiped away- trying to hide it. It also looked like he had had a failed attempt to fix himself up afterwards.

"Oh. Hey Carlz. Haven't seen you all day, must be late. As usual." he let out a small laugh, obviously trying to pretend like he hadn't just had a breakdown in the hallway. Which sent a wave of relief through my body. but it was hard to ignore the fact that something was seriously wrong. I tried to play along with it like i hadn't seen anything, but it was extremely hard.

"Yeah, i overslept a bit." I said letting out a hardly audible laugh, Which was all i could manage to do or say.

"Mmm mmm mm, Carlette Evans, are you ever on time?"

"Only on my good days." We both laughed at that.

"So Evans, what about coming over to my place when you finish up your classes? Sound good?"

"That sounds fantastic. Im there." I said while i gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Well then i guess ill see you later then?"

"I guess so." I smiled.

I waved him good bye, and started making my way down the hallway when i heard my name.

"Hey Evans, don't be late."

I started laughing as i turned around to face Taren. I gave him another look before i turned the corner fighting a smile i knew probably wouldn't leave for a while.

I still had about five minutes left of class, but there seriously wasn't a point on going now. So i skipped.
