Linstead: This can't tear us apart

First Step

His eyes were shut. He was sleeping. She stared at him taking in how he looked. He was still handsome. But he was a little more pale than usual.

She had been there for about 30 minutes. Hank dropped her off at the hospital and told her to call him when she was done talking to Jay.

She didn't want to wake him she just wanted to admire him. His auburn curls. His small beard that was barely there.

She laid her head on his chest and held his right hand in both her hands. She played with his hand while enjoying being around him.

He blinked and opened his eyes. He looked down to see her in the same position. He grabbed one of her hands to stop her from messing with his hand. She jumped slightly at the sudden movement. She hadn't realized he was awake. Jay sensed it.

Jay: sorry er, I didn't mean to scare you

She took her head off his chest and held tight onto his hand. She stuttered as she spoke.

Erin: it's ok, i-i-i-i just didn't know you were awake

She spoke fast and looked at him as if he was going to hit her. He reached over with his other hand and placed it in her other hand.

Jay: babe... your okay

She shook her head no and looked down while letting her tears fall.

Erin: I'm not

He released one of her hands and brought his hand to her chin lifting her head so he could look her in the eyes.

Jay: er we will both be ok in time.

She nodded and stared into his eyes.

Erin: when

He sighed and stared right back.

Jay: I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't know. But I'm gonna be with you every step of the way.

They stared at each other for a couple seconds.

Erin: I miss you. As much as I love hank, he has me trapped in his home. I can't go outside unless it's with him. But I know he is just trying to keep me safe.

Jay: I miss you too. At least you can go out. I can't.

Erin: yea but I have to have a bodyguard.

She rolled her eyes and he chuckled at her stubbornness. She move to sit on the bed beside him. He absentmindedly started rubbing her arm up and down.

Jay: you know I do have to thank hank for keeping you safe while I'm stuck in here.

She looked at him like he was crazy. Her mouth dropped open and her eyes went wide. Her head cocked to the side a bit. She lightly smacked his arm.

Erin: do not encourage him

Her look slowly faded as a smile creeped up on her face. Her smiling was enough to make him smile.

Jay: well you know I got to help you out. Keep you in line. I know how well you like it when your stuck with hank.

He started teasing her. He started to laugh and she continued to smile.

Erin: oh you think your real funny huh

Jay: I do

Erin: you try being stuck with him. He might as well throw me in a jail cell.

He laughed again.

Jay: I think your being a little dramatic.

Erin: am not
