As night began to fall, Ryan stood on the bridge watching over the villagers beneath him. He laughed softly at their innocence.

“What game do they think they’re playing?” He could hear the smile in the voice coming from behind him. He turned to see his sister smirking. He turned back as Caroline joined him and he catches her snigger.

“I don’t know but I like it,” he said, putting an arm around her shoulder.

“They think that just because it’s dark when they’re sleeping that they’re safe,” Caroline smiled, standing a little taller.

“Yes but any sound they hear, they think I’m creeping around.”

“At least they’re aware,” Caroline chuckled and looked up at her brother.

“Not really. If I was really there, they’d have a more scary feeling, like they could feel my presence,” Ryan said smugly.

Caroline rolled her eyes at her brother’s lack of modesty and replied, “Just think, the only thought they have is what you will steal next.”

She saw something moving and moved to take a closer look before laughing.

“Did they ask a boy to watch over their riches during the night?”

“Yes, they did,” Ryan smile and joined her. “I stole this from him earlier. He didn’t even stir.” He pulled out a golden pendant to give to Caroline. She gasped and took it.

“Thank you! It’s beautiful!” she cried, hugging her brother.

“That’s why I thought you should have it,” Ryan grinned at her.

“They don’t call you the dark and deadly stranger for nothing,” Caroline said.

“I can basically taste their fear,” he chuckled.

“Just bear in mind that they know who you are,” Caroline cautioned him. He may be older but she does look out for him.

“Ha! I don’t give a damn!”

“They’d better lock up their daughters so that you don’t stray them away like a lamb to be slaughtered,” Caroline said, making fun of him.

“What’s that?” Ryan pointed to the distance. They could see Keith coming out and he found Damian asleep next to the chest. He woke up and, even though Ryan and Caroline were too far away, they could see Keith yelling at the boy.

“Ahh, life on the outside,” Ryan said. “As long as we get what we want, I don’t really care.” He smiled down at his sister.

“I like it like that,” Caroline smiled back, and they headed back to their camp.
