Among the village hovers an old tale, one that has made the villagers fear gypsies for generations. It is known as the Midnight Well.
The well sits at the centre of the town square and gains many visitors during the day, however by midnight, it becomes a ghost. Because of that fateful event, they say it is a dark and evil place to be at night.
A young maid, the fairest in the town, had gone into the town that night, all alone. It is said she was meeting someone, a gypsy that she hardly knew, and they were meeting at the well.
Nobody knew where he came from, but it is said that his eyes were made of fire. He was known by his gold earring, his coal-black hair, and his hypnotising stare.
He told her,” Come away with me! Come and lay with me. Embrace the darkness.”
He said to her, “Come away with me! Ride into the night with me!” Nobody in the village saw her, and they did not see her again. She disappeared and was never found. She didn’t leave a trace behind.
It is said that as the day ends and a glow falls over the horizon, speeding feet are heard, and a black horse appears carrying the ghost of his rider.
He told her, “Come away with me! Come and lay with me. Embrace the darkness.”
He said to her, “Come away with me! Ride into the night with me!”
She took his offered hand and he pulled her into his arms and they ran together. He stopped once at the bridge to see if anyone was coming before running up to her. He pulled her by the hand and she went willingly.
He told her, “Come away with me! Come and lay with me. Embrace the darkness.”
He said to her, “Come away with me! Ride into the night with me!”
