Her head felt like it had been hit with a ton of bricks – no, make that two.
"Are you awake, Your Highness?
As she tried to shake off the heaviness that seemed to be weighing her limbs down, she took in the presence of the Royal Physician and her own secretary just beside her bed. It seemed that she was in a hospital bed, with what looked like an IV hooked up to her right arm.
Probably Corea General, she thought absentmindedly.
Instead of a reply, the only sound that seemed to come out from her throat was a weak cough. After clearing her throat again, she was able to get out a clearer reply, "What happened? I was at the break room after the workout, then-"
Briefly, the Royal Physician recounted what had happened. Just before she had fainted, Tae-Eul had managed to get ahold of Secretary Mo through her husband's phone, who was tasked to keep it safe while the King was attending to the emergency meeting in China.
She vaguely remembered dialling a speed-dial number, but in her state of disorientation hadn't realised who the number belonged to. Knowing that the Queen Consort had called, Secretary Mo had called for the security team and the Royal Physician to check up on her when all she heard was silence on the other end of the line.
While she was caught up in remembering the turn of events, one of the nurses walked into the room with a clipboard for the Royal Physician. Flipping through the reports, his expression slowly turned pensive.
"Does my husband know?" She felt bad for calling him during an emergency meeting, for a small matter such as a faint.
"Not at the moment, Your Highness. He's still in the meeting, as the countries are still debating on the territorial line dispute. However, we can let him know as soon as the meeting is –"
"No!" Her emphatic refusal surprised the Royal Physician.
"Your Highness, I think there is something both you and His Highness should know..." Her heart dropped and her pulse accelerated as thoughts of illness came to her mind.
I can't do this.
"Your report shows that you-"
She steeled her heart for the ominous words to come.
"-are pregnant."
"...iron is low, but...prescribe...His Highness should know..."
There was a roaring sound in her ears, the ebb and flow of it drowning out the latter half of the Royal Physician's words.
Her thoughts ground to a halt. Her mind blank.
Preg...nant?

For the next hour after the bombshell was dropped, Tae-Eul paced restlessly around the hospital suite she was situated in.
Despite the opulent and comforting interior, her mind felt as far away from relaxed as it could be.
At her insistence, the Royal Physician was forced to keep his silence about the pregnancy on threat of his death.
Something about a beheading and being the first person who would be a likely candidate. Tae-Eul would have chuckled at her own wit, if not for the fact that she felt quite serious about it at this moment.
