After a few hours of silence I started up the conversation.
"Declan, you hav very American name, where were you born?"
"Your'e right, I was born in America my mother is Korean and father American."
"So you are happier in Korea?"
"Yes I moved there two years ago, just came back to say a quick hello to the folks."
"So you plan on coming back then, to the States?"
"I will see when my term ends, if I get promoted I will stay longer if not I will come back to the States."
"And you, what do you do?"
"Modelling, but I am now being recruited as a Librarian at Puja."
"No way I have been dispatched to the Navy base close by."
"Well, we should catch up sometime if you want, you know where to find me." I said.
"Will do Min-Hee." Declan said.
I watched some Korean movies which helped me brush up on my language skills before my sound was muted out. "This is your pilot, we will make a emergency landing in Japan due to extreame thunderstorms and hail in Korea."
My body was shuddering but Declan kept assuring me that it happened all the time.
"Probably just a few hours before we get into Korea." Declan said as he tried to enlighten me.
I clicked my watch, which helped draw up a map for head office, this was a unexpected detour.
"Passangers please put on your seatbelt, cabin crew prepare for landing."
Through Declan's window I could see thick clouds brewing and just before we landed an electrical thunderstrom was on display with the cracking of the thunder piercing the earth.
"Passangers, we will need to get off here, the hail storm is said to be hitting Japan in two hours, it's going to last for 24 hours."
"I better book a hotel somewhere, I am not sitting on the airport for that long."
"You have a Japaneese passport?" I asked.
"Yes my great-grandmother was Japaneese, she is actually well known here in Japan, her house was transformed into a guesthouse , its about thirty minutes from the airport you should come?." I was thankful that Declan invited me but I had a small problem.
"I don't have a passport." I said.
"Easy to fix, great so your'e coming, let me tell you the gardens around there are like something you have never seen, I really hope the hail doesn't do damage."
"So your'e going to get me a passport?"
"Of course now come on lets get off quickly." he said as the planes wheels came to a halt.
"How famous is your great-grandma?"
Declan laughed. It was a natural pure sound.
"You will see."
My heels click-clacked through the airport and Declan was receiving nodds like he was their hero, then their admiring eyes would fall upon me.
My Japanese was very bleak and I could sort of make out what he said as he explained the situation.
The officer nodded several times, almost like a bowing motion, I had to get use to this type of body language to look like a local.
The immigration officer gave Declan a page to sign. "Sign that and your visa is approved." Declan said.
I smiled sincerly bowing my head.
"Now let's grab a cab before we get hit by hail." Declan said.
