The War Spy

My assignment

I got dressed in my cream coloured outfit and spritz some perfuum onto my neck. I needed to look my part all the time, it was part of keeping my identiy a secret. I walked downstaris from my apartment, the mail boxes was a few blocks away and I was expecting a very important letter.

I slotted in my key and cranked it three times, it never seemed to work normally. I slipped the letter inside my coat and grabbed my coffee like normal.

"Morning Miss Nora, hazelnut latte on the go?"

I smiled gladly. "Thanks Yvan" I said as I paid. "I will have a muffin too."

"No pay, for free," he said in his strong European accent.

He waved goodbye as his morning rush of orders came in. I blew him a kiss and waved. I looked up at the clouds, they were formed in a thin pattern woven into one another. My heels clanked on the walkway as I sipped on my late. Yvan's coffee was the best.

I walked up to my apartment, not wanting to wait for the lift. I put the muffin on my kitchen counter and walked through the house; our spies simply never trusted any environment, even our own house.

I took another sip, opened up the curtains to take another look at the skyline on the other side of my glass windows. I took out the letter and sat down. First I smelled it, these sort of letters were to be read with all the senses. It was the smell of magnolia, the national flower of... I paused a moment to look at my world map. I pressed a white pin at North Korea.

Next I inspected the stamp. The stamp was a abstact drawing of a magnolia with a steam drawn in a way that produced a map. I put it on my grid and then my fingers felt the word Paju. I frowned, the problem was that Paju was in South Korea and I knew that the letter was going to send me to North Korea. That tempted me to open the letter and I did.

Nora, we are pleased to send you to your first assignement, this is not an easy one but we are confidant in your abilities and training. You will need to research make-up, hair and fasion style so that you mesh in with the locals. Congratulations you are the new librarian at Paju Book City. You will need to brush up on your language and reading skills. Once you arrive, get familiar with everything, under estimation this should take around three monts, we will send the next assignment via a book. When you are there try to gain as much knowledge by reading and try to get to know some locals. Placing you in South Korea first gives us the best opportunity to sneak you into the country of Magnolias. May God Keep you safe. 

P.S Your travel documents will come through tomorrow. Your flight is tomorrow night, try and get enough sleep in and pack wisely. 

That night I spend researching North Korea, what they dress and tried to find as much information about the area I would be living in. I would enter into South Korea first, assignments were alwyas written in this way with allot of information and briefing but never did they include every detail. My nails tapped the diningroom table as I searched the web, it wasn't long before I discovered that I looked allot like the current Miss Korea. I walked to my closet and grabbed some gadgets which needed to come, I packed some chlothes into my beige and black fashion suitcase, and then I had to ring my best friend.

Eleina was my beauty expert and the only one who knew my true job, well most parts of it.

"Hi Eleina, it's Nora, I kind of have to look like Miss Korea, it's a long story, I'll explain when I get to yours?"

"Daling Nora, I was just about to call you, come on over to the salon I will put on the kettle."

I walked downstairs to the basement and got in the car. I clicked the garage door open and waved at my neigbour as he had just stopped. This was going to be fun.
