Beach House – Myth

Poe the Passenger - Sweet Talk

"How's everyone tonight?"

Four single words coming out through Hayley's microphone, and a thousand voices flooded the arena. Thousands of flashlights moved from left to right frantically. The waves of adrenaline were pulsating in my veins, the electricity was filling up my lungs like fresh summer air. Like I was there, doing what I was always meant to do; play the piano. I couldn't even see where the crowd ended, even if the stage was high up. Maybe it was the lights, or the vodka, but I could only see the flashlights for as far as infinity.

How did it all happen so quickly?

I was playing the guitar in Jupiter just a little while ago. But now I'm playing the piano – and people are going crazy over it, even if we don't even sound like Jupiter anymore. No more guitar to remind me all the bad things. How I used it as a coping mechanism; only the piano, reminding me of the good bits of the past and that, maybe, the future will be alright.

The first notes of our final song for the night filled up the stadium, coming from the piano in front of me. And I could tell, the crowd couldn't believe their ears.

Moonlight, I dream of you endlessly

Drowning in reverie, waiting for morning

To be honest, neither could I. It was the first time we ever played it on the piano – the only exception was the soundcheck from hours earlier. But with the arena filled with people, it sounded almost aethereal as it mixed with their voices, and the confetti falling from above us, which had covered everything in gold glitter.

Dim light, I'm drunk at the bar again

Holding a stranger's hand

A crowd with no faces

And downtown, the bar lights illuminate

Lost in a cityscape, where I try to find you

"40 thousand people!" Adam announced. "Well done, girls! That's your new record." With his tablet always in his hands, he smiled in surprise, only seconds after we got off stage after the concert. Still sweating from the adrenaline, our ears still buzzing, but I heard it loud and clear, and felt my whole body shiver.

"Oh my God! Who would believe!" Elisabeth screamed over him. She looked tired, but still better than she did before. "And we're only in our first tour!"

"Which whole tour got sold out earlier tonight," Adam continued.

My heartbeat got faster; I pinched my skin, ready to wake up in my queen sized bed. But I never did – even if it still felt like I was dreaming, that was reality.

"Sold out!" Hayley stuttered. "Damn it!"

"Entirely?" Aiden jumped up from the couch.

In my mind, I could hear the words she didn't speak; even with the piano?

A sudden vibration on my iPhone made me look at it momentarily, taking me away from the celebration and the three of them jumping up and down. To my surprise, it was a text from Louis; he never texted me, so watching his name pop up in my iMessage notifications felt some type of way.
