I'm shaken awake by Rumia, immediately I notice it. A throbbing all-encompassing pain shoots throughout my arm.
27:"NNNNGGGAAAAAH..."
Rumia:"AH! Sorry, did I hurt you?"
Instinctively I clutch my appendage, agony wracks my body and I immediately let go. Apart from constant pain it feels hot and scratchy, even a glance at my arm from beneath the bandages reveals how swollen it has become. A hot, humid sweat pours down my forehead, I've gotten a fever. I can only keep my eyes around half open and my breath is ragged.
Rumia:"You... you looked like you were having a nightmare, so I got you up"
The hot sun beats down on me from above, noticing my discomfort Rumia gets closer, shielding me with her large orb of dusk. It's cool inside and a hell of a lot more comfortable for me.
27:"Th-Thanks"
Without another word I begin walking. I look up, my vision now partially blocked by Rumias shadow ball, I gaze at the sky. What time is it? How long was I asleep? With no possible way to answer these questions I trudge through the forest at a fraction of the pace I was going yesterday. I notice an absence of weight on my back... no bag. I looked at Rumia, I could see the straps over her shoulder. Her arms were outstretched in that stupid pose that she was so fond of.
27:"I... I ca-"
My clothes ruffle as I'm pushed slightly, confusion sets in before I hear a massive, ear shattering explosion. Both of us instinctively look towards its source, while I can't see it's exact location a massive plume of smoke can be seen over the treescape.
27:"Rumia, check that"
Rumia:"On it!"
Rumia flies upward taking her calming sphere with her. I lay under a large tree for its shade. I'm tired, we've only been walking for like 10 minutes, I thought my drowsiness would wear off by this point but it's only gotten worse. I lay there much longer than I thought I would, as I begin to get worried Rumia returns to me, waving her arms frantically.
Rumia:"DANGER! 27 IT'S BAD!"
27:"What's up?"
Rumia:"AT THE- THE UH-"
27:"Calm down, think... about what you want to say."
Rumia comes close enough to put me back in her orb which I'm quite grateful for. She calms herself and starts explaining her findings.
Rumia:"There's fighting going on at that mansion, real scary stuff! It was all like WHUM BA-BOOM FWOOOOM. Danmaku was everywhere, 27! They musta had magic goin' or somethin' 'cus the sky around it was all dark, just like nighttime!"
She makes exaggerated gestures while looking dead serious, the combination brings me a slight chuckle and a smile.
Rumia:"Wha? What's so funny?"
27:"N-Nothing... It's of no concern to us... we just need to get to the village."
Rumia:"But what if they come this way!? I can't keep you safe from crazy yokai like that!"
27:"Then we'll hide, talk our way out... run if we have to"
Rumia looks discouraged as she helps me to my feet, I feel pathetic, more so than I ever have since I got here. My strength is decaying at a rapid rate, I just need to hold out until we arrive at the human village, Wakasagihime said mid day right? That's not unachievable, if I pass out it's game over Rumia will either eat me or leave. We walk the path to the human village Rumia checking over her shoulder every few steps, despite what I said I find myself doing the same.
