One lone girl. Against an army. The girl lost everything and everyone she ever loved. In front of her stood an army that stretched as far as the eye can see. Behind her lay the ruins of what used to be a bustling town, filled with cheerful faces, children running around playing tag, parents chiding their children, shopkeepers introducing their wares to travellers, old people watching time pass by.
Now, the land was flat, blackened, covered with ash that seemed to rain from the dark sky. Not a soul was about. Not a sound was heard. No pitter-patter of animals.
And yet, the girl stood in front of the ruins, desperately trying to protect what's left.
This girl was sought after by many kingdoms. She supposedly had the power to do anything she likes. She had the power to take a life or give a life. It's the latter that makes her the most valuable human on the planet. Moreover, she cannot die. She cannot age. She cannot fall sick.
And that is in itself a curse.
While everyone grew up, got married, grew old, died, she stayed the same. She cannot fall sick, therefore she does not know or feel suffering.
Nobody knows where she is from, when she was born, who her parents were. Nobody knew anything about her. All they know is that she can so-called grant them immortality.
The army that stood before her now belongs to an immensely rich king, King Tyrus of Southern Caldern. Though not powerful, he could buy over anybody, explaining the army he possess.
The commander of the army strode forward on his horse till he towered over her.
"The king is merciful. Surrender now and we will not hurt anybody else, nor the land," he spoke.
"There is nobody else to hurt. You bastards killed them all. Merciful, my ass. However, there is one thing I desire," she paused, watching his reaction before continuing. "Freedom." The commander stiffened.
Sneering, the girl raised her katana, focusing all her magic into her blade and swung it sideways. At first, nothing happened. Silence.
Then the sound of armour being cut open was heard, screams tore through the air. The commander dropped from his saddle, his body cut open in two.
Just from that one swing, an entire army has been eliminated. Sheathing her katana, she turned and faced the fallen town.
"Rest in peace, my friends."
Thus, the legend of Maju Raitobu, the harbinger of life and death began.
Of course, that was a few hundred years ago.
Rai's POV
Stopping at a small shop on the road, I bought a few supplies and food. After buying the essentials, I walked further on.
I am currently on my way to find my old friend, emphasis on 'old'. He should be about 60-70 years old now. Can't remember which. We've been childhood friends but I was forced to leave because of certain unusual circumstances.
Since then, I've been travelling, every guild or town I go to either chased me out or got invaded by my enemies. It's a never ending story. Pun is so intended. But it was time I came back home. It was the only place I could call home.
Moving on, I stopped to rest under this big oak tree. Opening my rucksack, I pulled out my lunch: dried meat, bits of vegetables and rice. Sighing, I tucked into my meal.
