As I walk through streets of New York, I hear buzzing everywhere.
People running to a store or somewhere away from the rain, the moon shines unbelievably bright on this beautiful Friday. I don't make a move to find shelter from the rain, I don't have an umbrella either. I walk, keeping my pace steady with my hands in my coat pockets, as I feel myself getting soaked with rain water.
I've always loved the rain, since I was little. My parents used to take me out in the rain and we'd dance around until it stopped, then my mom would bathe me in hot water and make me drink medicine before I could catch any sort of cold. I missed them, it's been five years since my dad passed and a year after mom died with him. I liked to believe that they needed each other in whatever afterlife that existed. I love them both and losing them at such a close time hurt, it took me a while to get myself back together but in the end I did it.
Here I am, twenty year old Amara Wade, twirling around in the rain as people stare at me like I'm out of my mind. Maybe I am, but I mean come on, aren't we all a little out of our minds? This world can do that to people, it just depends on how you take it, and I choose to embrace my insaneness.
Is that a word?
It sounds made up, I choose to embrace my deranged self, if you will.
I start to walk again as I feel myself getting chilly, my apartment isn't too far from where I am right now and I feel like drinking a hot chocolate. There's a great family owned, well technically it's an elderly couple owned bakery I always visit, they know me by name due to how many times I visit a day. Hot chocolate it is.
I pull the door open to hear the ding of a bell, here we go.
"Amara, good evening my dear, you are soaked." Edith says as she holds onto my shoulders and leads me to sit in a chair.
"I'm totally fine." I dismiss with a hand.
I look around the small bakery, the wooden like interior shines under yellow lights, Edith's bookshelf on the side makes it look more personalized and homey. I loved this place as a second home, she even let me borrow some books anytime I wanted which I loved because who doesn't love a good romance book.
Yes, she's got great taste this amazing old lady."Hot chocolate for tonight?" Theo, or Theodore asks as he gets out from the back of the shop.
"Hey! I would hug you if I wasn't all rain." I tell him enthusiastically making him chuckle in response.
"It's alright dear." He goes around the counter to make the hot chocolate.
"How's work going." Eidth asks as drags a chair out and takes a seat at my table.
"Well, we're on the second editing draft of the book." I tell her as I clap my hands excitedly.
"That's amazing." She pats my knees twice as I send a sheepish smile her way.
I pay for my hot chocolate, which let me tell you way a pain in the behind because they almost never let me, and I start to make my way to the door.
"Thank you." I blow them kisses and they wave back at me. I love them.
I start to walk again, finally reaching my building in a proximately two minutes and head for my elevators.
I press the button and hear the ding as the doors close. I take a sip of my hot chocolate and this is what I'd say heaven tastes like.
The elevator doors open and I walk in my floor, heading to my apartment.
I slow my pace as I see a man carrying boxes in the apartment across from me, he seems well built, tattoos on his arms, I watch as he lifts the heavy box and his arm muscles flex. Stop it you look and seem like a creep.
"Hey, need any help?" I ask, he stops and turns around, and I am met with the most gorgeous looking grey irises I have ever seem. Dark hair, very very tall, and a hard chest.
Stop starting at his chest.
He flashes a small smile.
"No thank you, I'm helping my sister move in." He tells me and points to the apartment, I look in as a short haired brunette walk out. She's tall, hazel eyes, they look alike.
"Hey, you my neighbour?" She smiles sweetly.
"Yeah, I'm Amara." I extended my hand to shake hers.
"Stella, nice to meet you." I move my hand to shake his.
He takes it and says "Dorian" I smile and retreat back to unlock my door.
I turn around one last time to see him staring at me still, I smile and close my door when he turns to walk into his sister's apartment.
I take a shower and head to my bed to do some more writing, the night is spent in my pajamas and eating ice cream in bed, until I fall asleep.
