I've felt as if most of my life I've been alone, my parents were my best friends but it wasn't the same as having friends your age. I grew up with Zion and that's pretty much it. I've had friends come and go, friends who pretended to like me to get something out of it, I've had friends who talked to me because they pity me. I hate nothing more in this life than receiving pity from people, I didn't want them or their pity. I never needed or depended on anybody in my life, especially after losing my parents. That didn't mean I want somebody to have around.
Being alone for most of my life didn't really affect me, it made me independent and I've only ever needed myself to get through hard times. I've learned to find contentment in my own presence. But, that also included the feeling of loneliness every now and then. I'd felt as if I was drowning in an ocean filled with nothing but me and the water that surrounds me. All alone, stranded. But the thing is I never wanted to swim and find a shore, until now.
Now I sit here with these amazing people in my life and I feel so thankful to have them around. For as long as it will last, and I have a feeling it's going to last a long time.
"Here is how the game goes." Stella begins to explain. "I'm going to set three spoons in front of us."
"Why, we're four people." Zion raises his head from her shoulders. "Well if you would let me finish explaining you would know. Anyway, I'm going to deal four cards for each of us. The rest of the cards deck will be set here." She places them next to her. "We will start by passing them around, the goal is to get all four cards to be the same number and once you do, you can call out 'spoon' and grab a spoon. The person without a spoon will be disqualified and if two of us touch the same one we have to fight for it. Got it?"
"Mhm, yes can I be with sunshine?" Dorian says as he tugs me by my waist, placing me between his legs. I rest my head on his chest and wait for an answer.
"Can I be will Stella?!" Zion raises a hand as if asking for permission from a teacher.
"Your stealing my sister." Dorian points a accusing finger at Zion.
Zion returns the gesture and says "your stealing my best friend."
"Call it even?" Cupcake raises his eyebrows in question at Zion, I'm too busy getting lost in the way his Adam's apple bobbling up and down every time he swallows.
"Deal." He nods his head frantically in approval.
"Was no one listening?! We can't play this game with teammates." She crosses her arms and frowns. My best friend peppers kisses along her cheek which makes her start to giggle. "No I'm serious." She says trying to conceal her smile again.
"Fine" both the boys mumble and scoot to their own spots on the ground.
"Ok let's start." Stella deals the cards. Since Zion is sitting next to the cards, we decided, well he decided he would start. He takes cards from the deck, peeks and when he doesn't need them, he passes them on. The pass-on game goes on for a bit before I hear Dorian call out "SPOON!" And snatch a spoon for himself. Stella grabs one, me and Zion go for the same one but I ended up getting it first.
"Whaaa" his face grows into a frown and fake surprise. I smile in victory when he jokingly scowls at me. We gather the cards and take one spoon out. Again, the cards are dealt and we repeat the pass-on of cards. Stella murmured a "spoon!" But me and Dorian were to quick and caught both before she had the time to blink.
"Hey! I got four matching that's not fair."
"You said it yourself, not a team game. You gotta be quick big sis." Cupcake teases and I laugh when she sticks a tongue out.
"Just you and me cupcake." I narrow my eyes challengingly at him.
"So it seems, sunshine." He does the same. The cards are handed out and I start to frantically grab new ones and pass them on as soon as we start, trying to get all cards the same number. "HAH SPOON!" I go to grab the spoon, but he has his hands on it as well. I try to pull it out of his grasp, no use. He smiles as I struggle to get it from him.
"I'll let you win sunshine, on one condition." He tries to negotiate, shouldn't he be trying to pull the spoon out of my hand? This is no funny business.
I meet his eyes that light up with mischief as a smirk tugs on his lips, I let drop my eyes to them for a second before focusing on an answer "depends on the condition cupcake."
"Do you agree?"
"I'm not going in blind into whatever trap your setting for me." I shake my head and feel him try to pull the spoon as well.
"Hmm not an easy one to fool are ya?" He jokes.
"Nope, not me mister."
"God get a room." Zion waves a hand and kisses Stella on the cheek.
"Says you!" I eye him and he shrugs. I feel the spoon being pulled roughly and due to my hard grasp on it, I'm being pulled with it as well until I land inches away from Dorian.
"Hi." I gulp. Stella and Zion are now busy grabbing more drinks and snacks for the movie we're watching next.
"How ya doin' " he says. I get an evil idea, an evil genius idea. I'm a mastermind, muwahahaha. "Can I do something cupcake?" I ask innocently. He nods.
I lean closer and until our breathes are shared, his eyes drop to my lips, I lick them. I dip my head down and place a small, gentle kiss to his neck and he lets go of the spoon just as the two love birds walk back in with the snacks. "HAH I won, whoo hoo. I won. I won." I stand up and scream in a sing a song voice.
"She cheated!" He retaliates. "Not my fault your easy to distract cupcake. Plus pro tip, you should really consider what your agreeing to before you actually agree to it." I wink at him.
"She's got a point dori." Stella and Zion laugh.
He pulls me by my wrist and drags me until I'm set on his lap. "Well sunshine, jokes on you I'm the winner here." His husky voice whispers into my ear. "Like I've told you before, not much of a loss if I enjoyed it." I have no words and I'm glad the room is dimmed with lights because I can feel my cheeks heat at his response. And the worst part is I actually enjoyed it, and the way he shivered in delight when my lips touched him. I lay my head in the crook of his neck, he smells a mix between a musky yet citrusy smell and I have no clue how that works but it's the best thing I've ever sniffed. I place another small kiss but this time to his jaw, just because I wanted to feel his skin on my lips again. It's addictive. I should stop what if he finds me weird? Ugh.
"You're killing me here sunshine."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be" I feel him shake his head, he looks down and places a kiss to my nose with a smile. We all continue to watch friends.
