I assume Newt woke up before I did and he carried me to my hammock, considering that's where I woke up.
Once I was up, I walked around in search for Thomas. When I found him, he was facing the other way talking to Gally. I smiled to myself and ran up behind him and jumped on his back.
"Hello fellow runner!" I said happily as he regained his balance. "Hi Gally!" I said with a wave.
"Are you going to be getting off anytime soon?" Thomas asked grabbing under my knees so I didn't fall.
"Not until we go to the Maze for the day." I said stubbornly.
"Okay, let's go then. Talk to you later Gally." he said right before walking to the north entrance.
"Bye Gally!" I yelled turning my head as Thomas walked off. We reached the north door and I hopped off Thomas's back.
"Wait. . . Where's Newt?" I asked turning around to try and find him.
"He's in the fields." He responded gesturing to Newt tending to a tomato plant. I ran as fast as I could to him and knelt on the other side of the crop.
"Hey." I said peering over the side of the plant to see him.
"Hi." He replied standing, as did I. I walked cautiously so I didn't step on any plants.
"I was just gonna go into the Maze with Thomas and I wanted to say goodbye." I said to him with a shrug. He held onto me and kissed the top of my head.
"Be careful." He whispered into my hair.
"I will. See you this afternoon." I relied than ran back to Thomas. We took a slightly different route than yesterday, but it lead to seemingly the same dead end. When we reached it, we sat down and ate some lunch.
"I can't believe that Alby let you and Newt be together." Thomas said almost angrily, tossing his apple core away.
"Why not?" I replied, standing up.
"It's just weird. Why would you want to be with Newt anyway? There are tons of other Gladers. . ." He trailed of as he stood. I tilted my head to the side.
"You're starting to sound like Gally. Cut it out shank." I said starting to walk in the direction we came.
"Why Newt?" He asks after a few minutes of running, slowing our pace.
"He was the first one I saw, and the first that actually noticed my existence for more than ten seconds." I replied, and tried to focus on running.
"So me standing up for you when he was being a total shuck face doesn't count for anything?" He replied, stopping in the middle of the corridor.
"Let's just get back. We can talk about this later." I said pulling him forward.
"Fine." he replied and we started to run back to the Glade. We were almost to the doors when Thomas tripped and hurt his leg.
"I- I can't get up." He said sadly, grabbing his leg. I then attempted to get a hold under his arms to drag him.
"Give me your hand." I said, hoping my idea would work. He did as I asked and I started to drag Thomas across the smooth Maze floor. We had to be a hundred feet away when the doors started to close. I could see Newt standing in the opening, eyes wide. I tried to drag Thomas faster, but to no avail. We had almost made it when I realized we couldn't. Then something unexpected happened.
Newt squeezed himself through the doors right as they closed.
"Well, looks like we're repeating history." Thomas said grumpily. He stood and brushed himself off, the started pacing.
"What the- How are you walking? Thomas!" I yelled approaching him and making him face me.
"I just wanted to be with you fora little while without him there." he replied tilting his head to Newt.
"Oh, and grievers are just better company right?" I yelled even louder, getting angrier with every word. "What about Gally? You know he'll be worried sick about all of us, don't even mention Alby. If he finds out you faked this to get me stuck here for some quality time, I think you will be spending some more time than you would like to in here." I said poking his chest. Thomas looked down at me and grabbed my face in both of his hands. I could see Newt standing up in my peripheral vision. I looked back at Thomas right as he kissed my nose. What is up with all these Gladers just kissing me whenever? I saw Newt start walking to where we were but I ripped myself from Thomas's grasp and walked over to Newt. He was infuriated.
"Newt, calm down." I said quietly, grabbing his hand that had been balled into a fist.
"That bloody shank just put your life in danger so he could kiss you!" he yelled. I glanced back a Thomas, who was smirking at us.
"Newt, its okay. We'll make it through tonight, okay? I promised you I would survive and I will." I replied softer this time, and he seemed to calm a little.
"Okay." he said with a sigh. That's when we heard it. The clang of metal on concrete, an I knew the grievers had been released.
"Thomas, what do we do?" I asked turning to Thomas.
"Let's find a patch of ivy, and try to get some cover from it. If we stay there without being seen, we should be able to make it." he replied. We followed Thomas to the biggest patch of Ivy I had ever seen. We could all get completely covered by it, but it was a tight fit. We heard at least ten Grievers pass by where we were, but we never encountered them face to face. That morning, when I heard the doors open, I pulled Newt and Thomas out of the Ivy and ran with them to the door. I saw Gally and Alby standing next to each other both staring into the maze. Neither expected us to return, so when we ran up and out of the maze, they lit up. I ran to Gally and gave him a huge hug and he picked me up and spun he around.
"I thought you were dead." He said when he set me down, looking me up and down for injury.
"I'm tougher than you think Gally. How were things here?" I replied fake punching his arm lightly.
"Terrible. Alby, Minho, and I didn't get any sleep thanks to you guys being gone." He said gesturing to Newt and Thomas who were talking to Alby.
"I'm so glad to be back." I said giving him another hug. I looked up and kissed him on the cheek causing his cheeks to flush red. I smiled at him and we walked over to the three other Gladers.
"He needs to be banished! He kissed her!" Newt yelled, gesturing to Thomas.
"What's the point? He can survive the maze, so sending him out there won't do anything but let him come back in the morning." Alby replied, crossing his arms.
"Not if we restrain him." Newt responded. Mine and Gally's eyes widened at Newts new ferocity.
"We are not doing that. A week in the slammer, just bread and water." He said, turning to Thomas.
Newt threw his arms in the air. "Like that's gonna stop him." he muttered, walking away. I looked at the boys then ran to Newt.
"Newt. Why is Thomas kissing me affecting you so much? It's over. He didn't even kiss my lips, it was my nose." I said stepping in front of him and grabbing his shoulders.
"He should still be banished for even getting close." he muttered.
"Newt! It doesn't matter what he did because I don't care about him! I care about you! The you I met that first night in the Glade by the fire. The you that made me promise to be careful in the dang maze. The you that picked wildflowers to make asking me out that much better. You wanting to kill Thomas? That isn't the you I know." I said getting more aggravated, but by the end I just sighed and started to walk away. He opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out. I guess I'm back to not knowing anything anymore.
