Dream POV

As soon as Drista and I enter the front door my moms already in a bad mood. "Bad day at work?" Drista asks sitting down at the island.

"Yeah, Clay your school called. You weren't paying attention in math again, you told me you would try."

"I was, I just got distracted."

She tried to be understanding, she always does "I know it's hard for you but your grades are just too low, I think it's time to consider a tutor."

"Oooo Dreams getting a tutor~"

I just ignore my sisters teasing and go to defend myself "Mom, I don't need one trust me."

"I'm sorry hun but I think that's the only option unless you wanna retake the year." Fuck. "One of my coworkers son is a straight A student and has tutored in the past, i'm sure he'd be helpful."

"I don't wanna, I can get my grades up by myself."

"Clay you can either agree to the tutor or i'm pulling you out of football, make up your mind."

"...Fine."

I guess it couldn't hurt? Sure it's annoying that I'll have less personal time, but what choice do I really have? My mom quickly started setting it up, texting her coworker to see if their son would be interested in it to which they agreed. The only thing I can do is hope he's cool.

Tuesdays and Thursdays; The days he'll be coming over, which sucks because I happen to have practice on Thursdays. Can't say i'm too stoked about it. Anytime I see George he practically runs away from me, clearly does not wanna talk so I don't push it.

After school I don't have to pick Drista up so I immediately go home to clean up before the unwanted visit. Since I had time I straightened up my room, that's when the doorbell rung. As I walk downstairs I can hear my mom cheerfully greeting him.

The familiar brunette catches my eye to which his smile drops, now replaced with what looks like fear? Worry? I'm not exactly sure but I know he's not happy about it.

"This is my son Clay!" My mother smiles pulling him inside.

"Oh he knows me." I say smugly, maybe this wouldn't be so bad. "Come on George, we shouldn't waist time." I grab his hand pulling him up to my room.

"Why your room..?"

"It's more private, what you don't like being alone with me~?" There it is; the same flustered expression he had downstairs.

"Whatever, lets get this over with."

***

We're only 25 minutes in and i'm already bored of it, I was doing great the first 15 minutes but now i'm staring blankly at the window while he's going over something from a math book.

"Dream? Are you even listening?" I regain focus on him and he doesn't look mad for once.

"Oh sorry, what were you saying?"

"If you need to take a break just say so, I don't mind." He says it nonchalantly as to reassure me it's actually okay.

"Yeah, i'm just having a hard time following."

"It's okay, we still have about an hour and a half. Using a textbook was probably a bad idea anyways, I'll just teach you how I do it." George slides closer to me showing me his notebook, he writes down a problem and explains an easier way to remember the formula.

He doesn't lose patience whenever I get an answer wrong, when I ask repetitive questions, or whenever I make the same mistake over and over again. Instead he explains it differently asking every few minutes if I get it while giving examples until I finally understand.

He starts packing up when we have about 15 minutes left, messing with his fingers as he waited quietly for his ride. "You've managed to do the impossible according to my teachers."

"It's not hard, you just need time."

"Y'know I think I figured out why you don't like me."

He looked up but refused to make eye contact "...And why's that?"

"Is it because i'm annoying?"

"You are annoying, but that's not the reason."

"Loud?"

"Once again yes, but still not the reason."

"Is it just my extremely good looks?" I laugh trying to lighten the mood with a joke, maybe not the best idea judging by his face.

"Shut up." Just then the doorbell rang and he rushed downstairs to leave, even managing to forget his coat.

Doesn't like jokes; noted. Other than that it went great, he even talked to me without making it sound like i'm a complete idiot. Behind his aggravated persona I think he's actually a nice person, I don't know what I did to make him hate me but maybe with time I'll be able to change that.

As i'm getting ready for bed I remember his sweater, it smelled like the beach. I set it down on my gaming chair so I can bring it to him tomorrow.
