Dill-Pickles POV

The sun was shimmering over the pond as I walked from the feeders forest to the water. This place was amazing, unlike the other pond I used to live at. Although that would probably change soon, when they all learned the secret-

The seed from the feeder had barely even given any affect on me, but there was a strange female pheasant staring at me. Birds like that always scared me. Do they like me? Do they hate me? I can never tell! I wish she wasn't there. Maybe in an hour or so she will leave, so I will be able to head back and eat.

By the time my talons reached the waters, the sun was halfway in the sky, reaching the peak up today's heat. It was a lot warmer here than the other pond, but it was worth it. I would rather go anywhere than stay there. I just hope they don't come looking for me...

I was jolted back into reality when there was a rustling sound coming from the bushes. It sounded quite large, so I quickly jumped out of the water and onto the grass once again. I could see the tall grass shaking around where the noise was coming from, and it kept on getting closer and closer until my heartbeat was quicker than a humans transportation cart!  The shaking grass was right at the edge of the short grass when a duck jumped out and sprang towards me!

It started stuttering things like "The beast, it's coming!" And "the fire bullets are headed for us!"

Obviously, I had no clue on what it was trying to tell me. That was until I saw the large figure hidden behind the tree a few meters in front of us. It had a massive dark colored stick, and had a camouflaged body. It took me about five seconds to realize what was going on. By then, it was too late. In front of me stood a dead duck.  As soon as I realized the stick the human had was a fire arm, I fluttered away into the tall grass, shielding myself from the danger out in the open.

I didn't realize it, but soon after I had laid down and fallen asleep. My head was filled with nightmares about the fire arm, the deadly bullets, and the bloody dead duck. Before I even knew I was sleeping, I woke up to the crisp morning air. It was very early, too early for the sun, but I could tell today was going to be rough.

Even though it was Spring, the winter air was alarmingly cold. So cold that the white powder might start drifting down from the sky! every bird I knew hated the stuff. It took away our water, killed our plant food, and made us shiver.

But, why would I want to think about that? I knew a secret hideout perfect for a shelter. At the curve of the kill there was a human-made sanctuary. It was covered with a metal plate, but I had already spend days  uncovering it, so getting into it now was a piece of cake!

(It looked somthing like this, but it was a lot older, rundown with vines and plants and a tree covering it. Yes it is a tornado shelter.)

I quickly used my knowledge of the area to find it. I had covered it with large plants to make sure no other bird would be able to find it, as this was my home and mine only. The weather was almost a dreary cold, as a crossed the forest to get to the hill. There were no other birds insight, but I did see my old friend Austin the kangaroo, who stared in an amazing show for hatchlings called "The Backyardigans". I would recommend it to every bird.

Once I arrived at the shelter, that I called Fort 11037, I quickly lifted the iron plate and glided down. The inside of the shelter was damp and warm, unlike the surface, but was also very empty. The only things inside was a pile of moss I used as a bed and a small food supply that might last me three days. I also had a small leaf that used to have water in it, but the water had been drank up by yours truly. I wasn't sure if the pond would freeze over, so I flapped up and out of Fort 11037 to collect more before it was too late.

Okay I don't know if that was five minutes long; but it was my longest chapter yet so I hope you liked it! I had a few 'references' there if you saw them. Have a good rest of your day! DRINK WATER AND GET SOME SLEEP 😡😡😡😡
