After hanging up the phone with Kay I nervously dialed the number for the job. When the ringing stopped so did my heart.

"Hello?" A deep voice came through the phone.

My heart stopped. I forgot how to breathe. He said it again as I stood frozen. My face flushed as I found how to work my voice again.

"Hey, This is Sammy...." Oh no!! What's my last name!! I have a panic attack. What kind of idiot can't remember their own name?

"Samantha Winters?" I could hear the smirk of this strangers judgement through the phone. I glared at the worn, dark wooden floor.

"Sammy Winters." I corrected smugly. Well as smugly as I could without my brain working properly. "Dr. Williams said to call him about the job once I made up my mind." Desperately begging my brain to come back I awkwardly searched for the right words.

"Right." He cut off my desperate search. "Dr. Williams is out, but I'd be glad to take a message." Come on, girl keep your wits with you! But after hearing his deep rumble of a voice I was speechless.

"Uh.... Ummm.... Rrr.. Um." I sound sounded like a half dead cat getting abused by a chicken. My face went bright red.

"Just.. Just tell him... That I.. That I called...Please." My 'please' sounded like I was asking for mercy on my life. I didn't mean to say the please out loud! At the time I was to busy thinking. Baby come back!! Come on brain! I will treat you so good!! Then the please slips out. Social skills, whyyyy? Why do you leave me?

My hand automatically flew to my face. Without realizing how fast or hard my hand flew through the short distance it made hard contact with my face. Causing my meant to be face palm to fell like a slap to the face. I squeaked in pain and surprise. I squeaked into the phone. A deep chuckle echoed through my brain as it left the phone. If it was possible I blushed harder.

"I... I have to go. Bye" I hung up quickly. I took a deep breath and let a sigh of relief leave my system.

I slid down the fridge in the kitchen. As my body came to rest on the cold tile, his chuckle echoed through the valleys of my mind. That deep rumbling voice would be imprinted on my mind forever.

I shivered. Just that mans voice reminded me of the dark bedtime stories that Dad used to tell me. His deep voice held all the darkness of the night, in a simple rumble. But his chuckle, it sounded more like a predator laughing at a cub. It was if his voice was the night and his laugh was the moon. He seemed dark until that rumble of a laugh showed you the light that it held.

Billy ran into the kitchen. "SAMMY!" He had a sheet trailing behind him with all of his toys on the blue cascade of cotton, that he tucked into the top of his blue denim jeans.

"Yeah, Billy?" I jumped to my feet in fear of the mess that was going to come.

"I wanna play." He gave me a mischievous smile, as he wiggled his brown eyebrows suggesting it'd either be messy or painful.

"I think Sally wants to go to the park." Hoping to distract the small seven year old boy. I took small movements towards him hoping not to startle him into running away with his sheet still in his pants.

"Okay. Can we go now?" His eyes went almost as big as his wide smile. He didn't wait for a response before sprinting to his room, causing the toys to go flying.

I flinched as the different plastic toys and action figures hit the wood floor. Sighing I moved to clean them up.

"Billy, pick up your toys!" Silence was the only thing to meet my ears. I rolled my eyes as I stuffed my arms full of stuffed animals and other plastic toys.

"Billy, we can't go until you pick up your mess." I called to him as I made my way down the short hall.

I pushed open his door with my foot. I dropped the toys into the toy pile. Noticing the room was empty I crossed the hall into mine and Sally's room.

Sally was on our bed with the horse clenched against her chest. She sat on the mount of pillows that sat sloppily on our bed.

"I don't know where Billy is." She giggled as she tried to keep a straight face. I looked around pretending I didn't know where he hid. I saw the old worn down blanket on our bed move.

"Fine let's go to the park without him." I sighed. He burst from under the bed with a grin on his face. He latched onto me.

"There he is!" Sally giggled and clapped from her spot on the bed. "Let's go."

As I watched the kids get ready I got a chill. His voice haunted my mind like a terrible song.
