I think perhaps some of our most transformative experiences happen in the moments when we feel stagnant and still.
We feel that somehow we are failing if we aren't constantly active or fighting for progress. A caterpillar shields itself from the world in order to blossom. Why don't we allow ourselves the courtesy to do the same? Why must we always be 'switched on', 'productive' or 'engaged'. Is it so wrong to just simply, be?
Even as the clouds roll in on our minds, and the world shrinks to become distant and unimportant, subconscious healing is constantly taking place.
What we know as 'the healing process' is often only surface level. Those depressed days, those high alert days, those days when we don't know whether to laugh or cry, or when we feel totally disconnected from everything that we are. Those are healing days too. The days when we can't stop smiling at the world, when we see love in all people and all things, when we feel like we might burst from the magnitude of our own emotions, those, also, are healing days.
And the days when we feel broken. Like one more weight might crack us open. Like we are being torn again and again, fragmented into a million pieces and unsure if we will ever rediscover ourselves. Those days are days of healing, too.
We feel what we feel because so much is being processed beyond our conscious awareness. Memories being replayed. Traumas being relived. Whole lives being repeated.
There is no moment when we are not transforming ourselves anew.
So hold space. Hold space for pain. Hold space for love. Hold space for simply being.
Hold space for you.
