Olivia had mixed emotions for her parents coming home. The family didn't always get along with each other, but she missed them. Plus, she didn't always like having the house to herself.
"How's your brother?" Liv asked her dad as he sat down on the leather couch. Mr. Jackson put his head in his hands, visibly stressed. Mrs. Jackson touched his shoulder, trying to console him.
"Not in great shape. Could be better." Mr. Jackson said, shaking his head. Mrs. Jackson stood up and walked over to her daughter, standing in front of her. She smoothed out Olivia's hair with her hands, and made sure she looked presentable.
"How was your week since we've been gone?" Mrs. Jackson asked.
Olivia took a second to think, remembering everything that had happened that week. Even though it was kind of shitty, it ended on a really good note. Plus, ever since last night, Olivia's head has been in the clouds.
"It was good. There's actually someone I want you to meet." She said.
She wasn't thinking when she said that. Liv was in la la land.
"Oh?" Her mom asked, crossing her arms. Mr. Jackson converted his attention to the two of them.
"Uh, yeah. I can invite him over for dinner." Liv said.
"Him?" Mr. Jackson asked. Olivia sighed.
"Yes, him. We're together." She said. Her mom raised her eyebrows, and her dad looked surprised.
"Already?" Mrs. Jackson asked. Olivia ignored her.
"Do we know this boy?" Mr. Jackson questioned. Liv shook her head.
"No. I don't think so." She said.
Mr. and Mrs. Jackson exchanged looks. Olivia already knew what they were thinking, but she didn't say anything.
"Alright. Invite this mystery boy over for dinner, then. What's his name?" Mrs. Jackson asked.
"Fezco." Olivia answered. For the second time, Liv's parents exchanged looks.
"What kind of boy's name is Fezco?" Mr. Jackson asked. Mrs. Jackson laughed.
"Oh, Derek. He's probably some hooligan who's trying to be a rebel. You know how some of the kids are these days." Mrs. Jackson said, looking Olivia up and down.
"I mean, seriously. Is he a liberal?" Mr. Jackson wondered.
"Dad. What does that have to do with anything? So what if he was?" Liv asked, challenging her dad. He raised his hands in the air.
"You kids these days are so political." Mrs. Jackson said, shaking her head. Olivia scoffed and made her way upstairs. She didn't agree with her parents' political views, but she knew arguing with them was useless.
"This Fezco better be here by six thirty!" Mrs. Jackson called after her.
Liv slammed her door shut, pulling out her phone from her pocket. She decided to text Fezco right away, realizing what she had just done.
