We start inside Sebastian's apartment complex after he insisted that I shouldn't be left alone in the sketchy parking garage.I first note that Sebastian's apartment complex is very eerie. We start walking up a confined, cold, black, metal staircase. It looks like the type I can imagine seeing on a true crime show. A shiver runs down my spine, but I can't tell if it's from the white paint that's chipping off the walls, or the pit that's in my stomach by happenstance.
Sebastian breaks the silence before my thoughts start to run wild. "I do have a roommate since rent is so high lately. I just wanted to let you know in case if they're here."
I focus on my footing as I continue up the grueling steep metal stairs. "That's a good plan. When did you get a roommate?"
"A few days ago, actually. So it's very new," he chuckles.
I smile and try to keep up with his pace. "Very new as in a new car 'new,' or new as in an infant 'new'?"
"New as in infant 'new.' So, I've maybe talked to him twice," he chuckles lightly, "but he seems like a nice enough person. You should assess him. Let me know what you think."
I can practically hear the smile on Sebastian's face. "Why me?" I chuckle.
"Because you're my friend, and you know me better than he does." Sebastian's pace slows, and I notice how he's taking deeper breaths. "Just tell me if you get a bad vibe from him, or if you can read anything about him," he shrugs, "but like I said, he might not even be home right now."
I smile even though my legs are burning from the steep stairs, "Okay."
We finally reach the dark navy blue door with a golden door knocker placed in the center. I see the number 426 is on the doorframe, and then I see the peephole is just above the door knocker.
Sebastian takes out his keys and unlocks the door, and it screeches the whole time while metal on metal rub, and I try to refrain from cringing. He winces at the noise before smiling at me. "Well... welcome to my place," he says before swinging the door open.
A rush of panic goes through me at the thought of having to walk in front of him inside a place I'm unfamiliar with. I don't want to knock something over or go into a room I shouldn't go in to. I shake my head lightly before motioning with my hand for him to enter first.
I follow Sebastian into his brightly lit apartment. The first thing I notice is the set of three large windows that are divided into smaller rectangular panes. Sunlight flows in through the glass, warming the light gray hardwood floor, and radiating a warm glowing welcome.
There is a sleek black leather couch sitting below the windows, facing me with open arms, daring me to sink into its warm embrace. To the left of it is a slightly wide black lounge chair. It looks like a couch you would expect to find in a therapy session.
The interior walls are white brick, and the whole living area is open. I turn to my right and see the kitchen. The white granite countertops pop out at you because of the black fridge, black cabinets, and black barstools. It's a small kitchen, but it's definitely gorgeous.
There is a large black bookshelf that lines the white brick wall behind the plush lounge chair to my left. I'm so mesmerized by all of the many books, and decorations that litter the shelves, that I haven't even noticed Sebastian is now sitting on the couch.
"I take it that you like it?" He asks lightly while leaning back into the couch and stretching his arms out beside him, relaxing into it.
I smile, "Yeah, it's really nice," I say barely above a whisper.
