The Lecture

The lecturer was droning on and on. The humid summer heat outside coupled with the smell of sweaty bodies around her was noxious. Seo Ryeong could not focus on the lecturer. For some reason, baby face in chinos was her thing. Uggh. Baby face even had a name. Her friend, So Yong messaged her that night that it was THE Choe Min Hyeon of KU Group. Double uggh.

Seo Ryeong was dressed today in a pink LV blouse, jeans and high heels. The Louis Vuitton blouse was surprisingly cheap. Thanks to the price, she always felt awesome whenever she wore this piece. She had picked it up in the secondhand clothes store near her modeling workplace in Dongdaemun. The owner of the secondhand clothes store knew her by now. Seo Ryeong wasn't above dishing out a little flattery to get the best prices for his goods. The one drawback to working part time as a model was that it fed her appetite for branded and well-fitted clothing.

"Ouch!" A pen tip had poked her hard in the back. She turned and saw Min Hyeon sitting right behind her. Wasn't he sitting across the aisle just a few minutes ago?

"Sorry. I wanted to ask you something but you've been ignoring me since we met yesterday."

Seo Ryeong pretended nothing happened when other students looked at her. She turned her back on Min Hyeon and began listening to the lecturer in earnest. She picked up her pen and began writing out notes. She was an audio listener and had a great memory. Going for lectures was already 80% of her study. The remaining 20% of studying was reserved for last minute cramming. History was a breeze. Economics needed a little more effort because of concepts but once she grasped them, she was good to go. She knew she was lucky because she didn't need to slog at her studies like her other coursemates. It gave her a lot of time for the long hours that part time modeling required.

The seat next to her was empty, but it was blocked by another student sitting at the aisle. Seo Ryeong had a feeling that chinos baby wasn't about to give up. Her instincts were sadly correct. Choe Min Hyeon climbed his table in one swift movement and plopped down right next to her.

"You there!" Dr Ahn of Economics stopped her lecture and pointed at him. "Why are you moving around during my lecture? Get out!"

Choe Min Hyeon put a folded note into Seo Ryeong's hand before sauntering out of the lecture hall. He bowed at the lecturer and apologized saying, "I think I have food poisoning, Doctor."

Seo Ryeong smirked behind her pen-holding hand as she watched Choe Min Hyeon exit the room. Then, the unthinkable happened.

"You!" Dr Ahn pointed at in her general direction.

Seo Ryeong turned with all the other students to look at whoever was behind her. No one behind her was looking behind. In fact, they were all looking at her. The smirk slid off her face like melted ice cream.

"You in the pink blouse! Get out of my lecture hall!"

Seo Ryeong felt fury rising in her chest. It was totally unfair that she was collateral damage to Choe Min Hyeon's insufferable attitude. He might not need to do well in his studies but she had to. It was necessary to ace her studies to align with her ambition to keep breaking glass ceilings in every field. She slipped her pen case and notebook into her tote bag before walking down the steps to the exit like it was a catwalk. Dr Ahn let out a loud huff when Seo Ryeong didn't bother to slow down and bow apologetically in her direction. There was no need to apologise. She had done nothing wrong.

Choe Min Hyeon was waiting right outside and he smirked when she came out of the lecture hall. He sauntered over and said, "Bad luck, huh."

Seo Ryeong didn't bother to answer. She was boiling mad that she had been implicated alongside him. She had met his type before. They all had one thing on their minds – to get into her pants. Normally, she forgave men like him. They couldn't help it that her personality was encased in such a visually appealing shell. Just as a cat couldn't stay away from fish, so it was between men and herself. Her anger towards him today was unprecedented. He was standing in her way of acing her grades.
