Chapter 7 - Rescue

"I told you, I have a boyfriend!" she raised her voice and glared at them.

Issei and his friends now glared at her, and he angrily raised his hand to slap her. Y/n closed her eyes and moved her face away but didn't feel anything.

She slowly opened her eyes and looked back only to see that Kageyama held Issei's wrist as he stood beside her.

"Are you okay?" he asks her while he still glared at Issei, and she nods.

Kageyama gripped his wrist hard and pushed him away.

"I think she made herself clear." Kageyama raises his arm in front of Y/n to protect them from going closer to her.

Issei stood back up and glared back at Kageyama.

"Oi, you don't know how to behave around your seniors?" He scoffed.

"You're the one who's provoking here." Kageyama looks at them.

"And who are you?" Issei asked while his friends laughed.

"Probably someone who wanted to feel like a hero." one of his friends told.

"Hey kid, that girl right there, do you even know who she is?" the other friend spoke up. "why do you want to protect her?"

Issei smirked and looks at Kageyama. "We're men, I understand what you might be feeling." He walks towards him and puts his hand on Kageyama's shoulder. " But don't worry, we'll give her over to you once we're done with her." He whispered to him.

Kageyama felt his blood boil and punched him right on his cheek, sending him falling back.

"You know.." Kageyama unzips his jacket and throws it on the floor. "No man will ever stay quiet if their girl's being abused." He glared at them.

Issei held his cheek where he received the punch while his friend went over to him for support.

"Your girl??" Issei glared.

"Yeah, what about it?" Kageyama glared at them before they just looked at him and ran away.

Y/n stared at Kageyama as he came back, took his jacket and wore them again. He then looks at her and raised an eyebrow.

"Th-thank you." she mumbles and looks at him.

He just sighed and walked ahead. "Let's go, let's finish up with your errand." He told and she followed.

As they finished setting up all the notices, they were now on their way to the gym, when Y/n looked at Kageyama.

"How come you weren't in the gym?" she asked.

"I was just passing by, I wasn't following you or anything." he shrugged.

'I can't tell her that I had the gut feeling of something bad happening to her so I followed her.' He looked at her in the corner of his eyes before looking ahead. 'Either way, those guys..' he frowned. 'those were the guys that were there in the restroom this morning..'

They reached the gym and entered. Hinata spotted Kageyama and had sparkly eyes as he ran towards him. "Oiii Kageyama!! I thought you told you were busy with some erra-" 

Before he could finish his sentence, Kageyama kicks him before he spills out the truth. "Shut up, boke!"

Back in the class after the lunch break, the crowd was now forming by their class to see the one who fought back with the senior, as well as the rumour that he was dating Y/n.

Kageyama glared at the crowd which made them feel uneasy, while Y/n looked at him. 

"I'm sorry you're in this mess."

"Huh? What are you apologizing for?" Kageyama frowned at her.

"Well.." she glanced at the crowd who were looking at them and Kageyama looked at them before huffing.

He then stood up and pulled her by her hand through the crowd, taking her to the roof.

"What was that?" she asked him after he let her go.

"Those stares were getting on my nerves." He told her while his back was facing her. "What did you want to talk about?"

She looks away and sighed. "Why?" she looks at him. "Why did you tell them that you're my boyfriend?" 

Kageyama looked at her and raised an eyebrow.

"If you didn't, people wouldn't be talking about you as well and associating you with me." she looks away remorsefully.

"I did that because I wanted to." He turned to face her. "Not because I was forced to. It's not like I care about what people talks about you or me or about us."

Y/n looks at him as he spoke. "But.." she sighed and looked down.

"Don't worry," he looks away. "we're just going to pretend to be that we're dating. This way they'll know that you're not just someone who plays around and eventually, the rumour about you will die." he smiled.

"How long are you planning on doing this..?" she asks.

"I don't know either." He sighs and looks at her. "Until the situation gets better, I guess."

"It might take months or even years."

"Weeks... They got other stuff to talk about so I'm confident that it will take weeks." He reassured her.

Y/n smiled at him and nodded.

"Now, let's go." He smiled and walked on ahead, but was stopped by her holding his arm.

He looks at her surprised while she looked at him, reading his expression and looking away. 

"I'm sorry, I thought that since we were pretending to be one, we should act like one.." she blushed embarrassed and slowly lets his arm go, but he held it with his free hand and looked ahead.

"No, you're right. Let's do this." He suggested and she nodded, going downstairs together with her holding his arm.

He was blushing when he realized that his heart was probably beating faster, and looked at her in the corner of his eyes to see that she doesn't notice it.

Upon reaching the class, the crowd looks at them and gasps, while they just walked normally towards their seats.

They sat down and Kageyama crossed his arms and looked ahead, before looking at the crowd who were still talking about them.

Kageyama stood up and pointed at them. "You cowards!" He glared. "If there is something you want to say about me or my girlfriend, you better say it on my face!"

The crowd slowly dispersed after he snapped at them while Y/n blushed when she heard what he just said.

'It is a pretense but somehow this feels different...in..a nice way.' she thought to herself as she looked at him before looking ahead.
