I WOKE UP AROUND half past six in the morning, with a bad headache and a cough, no doubt I had caught a cold from last night's rain.
I went over to the closet and pulled out warm clothes, which I put on almost instantly so I could get back into bed.
But apparently, I wasn't the only one who was unwell at home. From the guest room, a throat clearing and incessant coughing could be heard.
I got out of bed once again, slowly approached the door, and with the same gait walked out in the direction of the guest room.
When I reached the door, I leaned against the door frame, holding a hand to my forehead, realizing that I had a fever. I knocked on the door, even though it was open, but received no answer.
—Bellemoor?— I spoke followed by a coughing fit.
No one answered, but the throat clearing and the aforementioned coughing didn't stop.
I entered the room turning on the light, managing to see a girl choking with her own spasms, as she stirred between the sheets.
I leaned toward her and placed the palm of my hand on her forehead, which, like mine, was beginning to become sweaty.
You didn't need a thermometer to know he had a fever, even higher than mine.
—Shit.
I left the room as quickly as my condition allowed and headed for the kitchen, where I poured two glasses of water.
I reached over to the low shelves of the island and pulled out a first aid kit where my mother used to keep medicines.
I took two painkillers and swallowed one to calm my fever and the headache I had at the time.
As best I could I went back to the room and left the pill, next to the glass of water on the bedside table.
—Sophy. Wake up— I spoke moving her by the arm, bringing a fist to my mouth to cough —Bellemoor wake up.
The brunette turned in my direction and as I tried to wake her up, she slowly opened her eyes.
—Aidan?— I nodded.
I helped her back on her feet and offered her a glass of water, which she swallowed almost completely without a second thought.
I held out the pill to her, receiving a distrustful look from her, but she took it anyway.
—I'll keep you a little warmer, or else you'll catch pneumonia.
